So who's it going to be? Pretty boy or Peyton's little brother? Looking forward to history or are you sick of hearing about the Pats? If they win, do the Pats deserve an asterisk for cheating against the Jets in the season opener? Can Philly fans root for the Giants? Looking forward to the commercial made specifically for the deaf audience? Going to get blind drunk? (Eat first, Nicho.) Feel free to post predictions, talk smack, wax poetic on the dreaminess of Brady and provide live commentary during the big game.
I hope the Pats get blown out, but will settle for an Eli 'Namath' game. I also use the asterisk term to piss off NE fans. "Bonds and the Pats are pretty much the same thing."
I'm torn on this. I don't want the Pats to go undefeated, but I really, really don't want to listen to NY fans. Since both team planes touched down safely, I don't know what to root for.
I'll root for whoever is playing the Giants. ....and Eli has one of the most punchable faces in all of sports.
We can always hope for a Black Sunday scenario, when the blimp crashes into the stadium and no fans are hurt, yet both teams are decimated.
I'll never, ever root for the Giants. Therefore, I'm rooting for the Patriots. Plus, it'd be pretty cool for the Patriots to go undefeated... I'll be able to say without a doubt that I was able to watch the greatest team ever, which is something.
I am rooting for a game that goes 0 - 0 for 2 and a half days and the game is so horrible that they kick both teams out of the league... Pats win 2-0 on a safety after a grueling 60 hours of play
Best case scenario: the movable field malfunctions on the first play and zips out of the stadium sending both teams flying ass first into cacti.
I'm really torn on this game. I don't want to see our rivals win it (especially Eli) and I don't want to see the team which beat us in our super bowl appearence finish with a perfect season!
Id love to see the Giants win it if only to avoid having to listen to the already insufferable pats fans for the next 40 years about their greatest team ever. then again as a colts fan i hope the pats win as perhaps they'll loose half their players again like they seem to do every time they win it all, and the Colts can win again next year. ultimately though i don't give a toss about either team and I wont even be watching it.
A Colts fan...and you're a New Englander? I love Maine, by the way. Great place in both winter and summer.
This pretty much sums up my stance. I despise the Giants for obvious reasons; I absolutely hate the Patriots too. In the end however, I'd rather see the ::gulp:: Giants win...I feel like I need to shower just for saying that... The Patriots are the most arrogant, classless, dirty team I have ever seen, yet the media gives them a free pass time and time again because their are amazing/have the golden boy/are a dynasty/etc. I don't get how the spygate allegations, particularly the one that just surfaced today about SB XXXVI, can't raise some serious questions about what the Patriots have accomplished in this 7 yr stretch. Bellichek is a smug SOB (not the good kind ), Junior Seau is a dirty player and a complete sell-out for "retiring" just to get out of his Miami contract, Rodney Harrison is the dirtiest player in the NFL and hopped up on HGH to boot, Tom Brady is constantly whining to officials, who, in return give the Patriots rediculous numbers of "phantom" calls (see: Wes Welker's TD that went unchallenged against the Eagles, about 10 different plays in the last 6 minutes of the Baltimore game including the final TD, and a number of others). I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the officiating in some of these games, coupled with the fact that it's now known that the NFL turned a blind eye to the SB XXXVI taping issue, makes me really think the league is doing everything possible to get the Patriots to 19-0. What makes things the absolute worst is that Boston sports fans take the Pats for granted. Even if the Pats win the Super Bowl, Red Sox hot stove will be the talk of Boston in a week. The '72 Dolphins may not have been the best team (aside from their record) of all time because they played a relatively weak schedule, but they accomplished an undefeated season with integrity. That's something the Patriots can't say. I hope the Pats lose tonight and this season just goes up there with the Seattle Mariners season in 2001, the best regular season in history that is ultimately forgotten because they choked in the playoffs. [/rant]
Advantages if the Pats win: The Giants Lose The 1972 Dolphins can shut up Disadvantages if the Pats win: NE/Boston fans keep their momentum Dynasty, dynasty, dynasty (tired of it yet?) More than endless talk about how their the best football team ever. Advantages if the Giants win: The Pats (and fans) don't get their 'perfect' season. The media will just move on instead of having 8 months talking about the Pats' Perfect season. Shula never [blatantly] cheated Disadvantages if the Giants win: Shula and the 1972 Dolphins keep being jerks that folks listen to. The Giants win. We get to hear about how Eli overcame Peyton's shadow and the NY media.....endlessly. What do these lists tell us. Not a damned thing, except that I don't care for either outcome. There ought to be ties.
I have to root for the Pats on this one. I can't support New York and consider myself a decent human being at the same time.
ugh. i guess i'll watch just so i know enough about the game to be included in casual conversations at work tomorrow. but to be honest, i could care less about the super bowl or the NFL. can't wait for March and the beginning of the MLS season!
Super Bowl XLII: Giants vs. Patriots NY Giants 10, New England 7 http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20080203017 Maybe this is the wrong thread to discuss this and I know its not over yet but I hear so much on how there is no scoring in soccer and then I see the Super Bowl score at only 10-7 in the 4th quarter. I remember in the older days of the NFL there were many defensive struggles and low scoring games. I'm sure if soccer were to change as many rules as NFL and/or American football does/has, we would definitely see a lot more goals.
