in reference to Peter... ''He was the one who built this team,'' (CJ)Brown said. ''He was crucial. He was our nucleus.'' is there gonna be a bit of a no peter hangover for the guys? from cj's comments in here i wonder if it might affect early play this season. i hope we don't develop a bit of a headless chicken playing form. oh and who is Len Ziehm? i always notice that the most obscure sports writers cover the fire. but than again anything is better than mariotti.
Len Ziehm writes mainly on hockey and golf, from what I can tell. As to who he is...well, who are any of us? That sort of talk just gets way too existential way too fast to be valid.
Len's been covering the Fire since, oh, the outset. He got the Hawks beat last year but used to do things like the Wolves and Northwestern. He writes a weekly soccer column on Tuesday's during the season. Glad to see you guys are patronizing their coverage (rolling my eyes). As for Marriotti, he's a columnist, not a beat writer, so he'd never cover the Fire. Though, the one time he did write about them, it was a glowing piece.
All Mariotti does is bitch, but these are down times as far as Chicago sports goes.Anyways, there's going to be a lot of new faces on the Fire this year who do you expect to do good?Who's this Brazilian guy they mention?I've never heard of him.
Surprised there was no post on the Trib's new sports columnist Mike Downey and his column on Saturday, in which he lists 11 items in the sporting news. Number six was: "I really was looking forward to watching my favorite Fire players next season, until the Fire got rid of all of them. I am really doing a burn about this. Not being able to watch Josh Wolff and Peter Nowak is bad enough, but the only reason I agreed to move back to this town in the first place was to watch Hristo Stoitchkov." The column was accompanied by a picture of Hristo sitting on the bench. I'm really starting to like this guy.
That's awesome. I think Paul Oliu should fly out and take this guy to a game in Section 8 It doesn't always have to be a prodigal son mission
Oh. I think most of the fans stopped reading the print version of the Tribune sports section by at least midway through the 2000 season, though. Whatever.
