Cattermole seals Wearside switch Sunderland have completed the signing of Wigan Athletic's midfield general Lee Cattermole, safc.com can exclusively reveal. Sunderland have signed Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole on a four-year deal. The Black Cats have paid a transfer fee of £6m to acquire the 21-year-old, who follows former boss Steve Bruce to the Stadium of Light. The predominantly defensive midfielder becomes the club's fifth signing of the summer and will be available for Saturday's trip to Bolton Wanderers. Cattermole came through Middlesbrough's youth system and made his Boro debut against Newcastle United on January 2, 2006. He featured 69 times in all for the Teeside club, scoring three goals. The tough-tackling midfield general linked up with Bruce for the first time at Wigan following a £3.5m move to Wigan in July 2008. He was a regular whilst with the Latics, making 35 appearances during his one season in Lancashire. And now Bruce has swooped for a second time to make Cattermole part of his team-building plans on Wearside. The Stockton-born player has represented England at Under-21 level on 14 occasions, finding the net twice. He joins recent arrivals Darren Bent, Lorik Cana, Fraizer Campbell and Paulo Da Silva to the Stadium of Light. http://www.safc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10281~1752492,00.html Also, it looks as if we have managed to extract £1.5M, from Ipswich, for Daryl Murphy (yet to be confirmed by SAFC)! http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=15086 If true, all in all, it seems like a great day!!
