It's hard for me to believe this. This is designated player money and you don't spend that kind of money (or the combination of TAM, DTAM and GAM that could knock the price down) on a left back.

Good read. It also doesn't mention Orlando's tampering with DC United's effort to sign Nocerino -- who had agreed to a deal with DCU until Orlando came in with another offer contra MLS rules. I'm sure DCU is one of the teams irked by the decision MLS made to help Orlando out.

While that's a lot of money, I think outside back is a critical position in MLS right now. Quality there can make a real difference in a team's ability to hold the ball and create in the opponent's half. Camping in the opponent's half is impossible without quality outside backs.

There's speculation that the amount listed is in pesos not dollars.

As a non-quality outside back, I resent the truth of this statement and demand that it be stricken from the record.

Why is it necessary to acquire $15M players in this league? Much less $9M. Atlanta is spending an impressive amount of money, but when they’re competing against $5M rosters, what’s the point?

welcome to MLS 3.0- the owners who will spend vs the owners who try to maintain status quo- hell, my team in vancouver has owners who are cutting the salary budget from 2017

All the owners can afford $15m-$25m rosters. Some won't have $30m to $70m annual revenues to offset the spending like Atlanta, TFC, Portland, Seattle etc but we are entering the risk/reward phase of MLS. This was always going to happen. Although I have to admit I thought it would be when payrolls hit $40m plus

Was wondering if source had the currency wrong. 9 million Uruguayan pesos would be a little over $300k. That (or the extra digit theory) would make more sense, given that AUFC is out of DPs, right? Also, with this guy's age and the way he's bounced around, I don't see how a 9 million price tag fits him.

To flip them for more. When you're talking about transfer fees, it's not like salaries. Some of a transfer fee for a young player is going to be speculative, based on the guy getting more valuable as he matures. (Which is why I'd be skeptical of 9 million for this guy. He's 23 and has already tried Europe once, I don't see big profit potential there.)
