I'll miss watching him, he was one of the most magnetic players in the league to watch. And it's funny, when they signed Jackson Martinez, my first thought was "you know, take away all the babble about how big the fee was and what this means about the Chinese league, and Martins has had a better career than him."

But it is good business for Seattle. Their team was too top-heavy (btw I have a feeling you can kiss that 4-3-3 goodbye), and the opportunity to sell a 31 year old forward for a big fee, even if he's your best, is not going to come around often.

There have been a few nice paydays for MLS teams so far....this, Miazga. I thought there might be a couple more.

MLS....I mean the MLS:D....looks to becoming more and more part of the worlds soccer network.

I'll be impressed in his dedication to that mission when we see him play in the Angolan Girabola.

    Nice job, Las Vegas.

Galaxy and Earthquakes fans filled Cashman Field for an unofficial attendance of 7,500, and the rivalry bickering could be heard in concession stand lines. Many local fans attended and some made the trip from California.

"The San Jose Ultras were already yelling at me as I was walking in," said Joe Turk about the Earthquakes' fan club. "They're just jealous because we have more championships."

Nemeth and Martins were around 3 million. Juninho was around 2, with Omar around 1.5, and Villifana at 1 mil. Include that 5 from Miazga and you are looking at around 15 million spent on MLS players this off-season.

What do you think was the net/net. How much did MLS spend on players?

I wonder if China will cause some changes in the foreign players MLS targets. For a variety of reasons I don't think China is setup to be a developmental league, and if they buy players at the end of their careers for large sums more MLS teams will just go the "19-23 year old" route in Central America/South America/Africa.

Not that much this year for the most part. Outside of Gashi and Gruezo most players brought in this year have been for less than a million. Of course last summer Portland paid around 5 million for Melano and Dos Santos was bought for 7ish (I'm converting pounds to USD in my head so these may be off by a bit). Some years there is more spent on incoming players and some years it is received for outgoing players.
