It looks like there's no more hope for Sun Belt men's soccer. The SBC had six programs in 2019: full members Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and Georgia State, plus two affiliates: Central Arkansas, and Howard. In May, Appy State announced they were dropping men's soccer effective immediately. In July, Howard decided to affiliate with the Northeast Conference in 2021, and didn't field a team this past fall. And just this week, the University of Central Arkansas announced they are leaving the Southland Conference in 2021, and are moving all their programs to the Atlantic Sun Conference. So, that leaves three Sun Belt schools without a men's soccer conference: Georgia State, Georgia Southern, and Coastal Carolina.
Probably right, although the Southern Conference might be an option, as the SoCon already has members in Georgia and South Carolina, and the road trips would actually be a little shorter, on average.
I could see Coastal joining C-USA. Top of the group in a lot of sports and a football program that is way too big for the other two conferences. The rest will definitely find places in between the so-con and a-sun
During Monday’s press conference introducing Marshall into the league, Gill confirmed the Sun Belt Conference will reinstate men’s soccer as a sponsored sport. Not only does the Sun Belt look to reinstate the sport, but it could instantly be a powerhouse conference on the national scene, given some of the moves that could occur to strengthen the league. https://www.herald-dispatch.com/spo...ign=blox&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social
Wow, where does that leave the MAC who is having one of its best seasons ever with up to Three of its Four Full Teams in the NCAA (plus soon to be leaving West Virginia)? Maybe join the Missouri Valley Conference with Northern I/Western M already playing some of the MVC teams.
