I'm sorry to say this but Summer's is a terrible place to dine in. If it weren't for football, I wouldn't be suprised if any people entered the place. My biggest complaint is the service. It's horrible. I entered the place, sat down and it took 10 minutes for someone with pity to serve me. It doesn't end there. During my entire visit there, they had only asked me once if I wanted something else or how was I doing. Wait, it doesn't end there. I can understand if the place was packed , therefore making them understaffed, but on Saturday, there were only a handful of us watching the game. And it seems they put more emphasis on the couple that are sharing 1 burger and a coke, while the rest of us drinkers (who consume more) have to wait and then track down the waiter/waitress. Unfortunately, this was my first visit to Virginia. And if the majority of VA restaurants are as what I described above, then Saturday is likely be my last visit to VA. I have other complaints but it's so many that I'll have to find a publisher to creat a book on how Summer's suck big time.
I made my first ever trip to Summers the weekend before last. I showed up after the WUSA/WNT doubleheader and proceeded to stay for about seven or eight hours including two meals, five beers, and a couple of waters. My personal experience is that the service was excellent. But I have heard horror stories.
As a proud Maryland native, I have to wonder whether DeezNutzz is actually from Rockville. After all, they did teach grammar and verb tenses in the Montgomery County public schools that I attended Seriously, Summers' service is horribly inconsistent, and you have to know what to order on the menu (hint: the fish and chips is actually quite good, the "pasta and chicken fingers" almost certainly isn't). But the quality (or lack thereof) of the food and the service isn't why I go. Summers was supporting soccer when it wasn't necessarily a profitable thing to do - and continues to do so NOW even when it isn't profitable (i.e. airing the US U-20 matches last year). I go to Summers because I know that, when Fado and Lucky Bar and all the other Johnny-come-latelys have moved on to showcasing something else, Summers will still show soccer.
When I go (admittedly not that often), I tend to sit at the bar. I've really never had that much a problem with the service. The decor could use some work though.
I've been there numerous times as well and the service is inconsistent. A couple years ago I was a regular Spain La Liga viewer and would be there every Saturday 3:00 PM. Joe went out of his way to make sure the fans who were there to watch Real Madrid, Valencia, etc. were taken care of. gocaps last paragraph tells you all you need to know about Summers. Give it another chance Nutzz.
If you want food & service go to Galileo (according to those more knowledgeable than me in the Food forum). If you want to down some beers & watch some soccer, Summers is it.
Summers brings out the gang member in all of you folks around DC. ... and I mean that in the best way possible.
Watcha talkin' bout Willis? Summers is like an old pair of jeans. Not real pretty but comfy. Hey Deez, good luck finding a bar/restaurant dedicated strictly to futbol in MD.
I don't disagree, noboby except a low brow juvenile thinks These Nuts is funny or appropriate. 1 - His HOTT cousin slept with two players this weekend 2 - He heard from a reliable source that Petke was in NY 3 - WHAT? 4 - Luckily this retard is the one trolling the Metro Forum
What he said. Plus try tipping. I get treated like a King but I realize that the folks waiting on me have to make a living. Oh, and I'm in there two or three times a week.
I'm pretty sure that based on this one experience you can safely assume that going to Virginia will always be a horrible experience. And I'm pretty sure that if one VA restaurant is horrible then pretty much all of them are. (yes, I am kidding.)
Personally I'll go pretty far out of my way to watch a game anywhere but Summers. But you have to love them for the soccer support.
Galileo may be expensive and prestigious, but you should avoid it. The service can be very slow and the portions are tiny.
Exactly! Sure are there times when the service isn't mind-bogglingly good? But when it comes to watching soccer on TV, is there any where else in America I'd rather be? Nope (with Boston's Phoenix Landing a distant second)
I guess I'm stuck in the position of hoping the service at Summers gets even worse, so we can keep the Rockville Eunuch out of Virginia. Sachin
Having waiters ask me how I'm doing while I'm watching the game is incredibly rude. Besides, they can figure out how I'm doing just by looking at the scoreboard.
Yeah. How many people do you know that live in Rockville, Maryland and can honestly say "this is the first time I have ever visited Virginia" when they are old enough to write semi-complete sentences and travel to restaurant/bars (ostensibly on their own. Maybe he moved to MD from California last week or he is about 9 years old (with a pottymouth judging by his handle) and the waiter couldn't see him because he kept slipping under the table. Otherwise he is a lying troll.
I've been going to Summer since '95 and have never really had a bad experience. Well, except for those involving the score of a game on the tv. The game are alwasy on, the beer is cold and the food is ok. Heck it's a dinner, and for the most part dinner's offer average food at best.
