Wow, that would sting Sporting a little bit. I could see his understand in doing in though, as Sporting seem to have a core of young players in the 1st that will probably not go anywhere for the time being.

I was a little upset when I heard this as he has claimed to be a "Sportinguista" but money talks and you have to think of your family first. Not the best environment for young players, so I hope he doesn't go the way of Mantorras or Joao Perreira, etc..etc...

He fell off the face of the earth.

I wonder if the youngster could earn a starting spot. Lord knows Benfica need some youth on their team.

While a bit taken back, I am not at all surprised. A lot was made about Coentrão and his "allegiance" to Sporting, though that position is already taken by Nani and hopefully Fabio Paim soon. Do we really need another player at the same position? Probably not. Hopefully Benfica fans will accept him even though he claims to be a Sportinguista...

That didnt stop Sporting fans for accepting Cristiano, Moutinho and Miguel Veloso cuz they were all Benfiquistas growing up

Miguel Veloso was actually formed in the Benfica youth system until he was 13. He, along with all the other juniors from that era, were released from Benfica by Vale e Azevedo.

    Fabio Coentrao replacement for Simao

Why dont we buy this kid sporting is sniffing around him and
he is clearly a huge talent. Cristiano Ronaldo type player, we
need young players to freshen up our attack.

Too late -- He already signed with Benfica. You can't compare him to Ronaldo, He is not fast. He is versatile but his best spot is playing striker.

I can tell you he will score loads of goals. He is a typical marksman, So let's hope he pans out.

He already signed to Benfica and Simao signed an extension till 2011 I believe on the same day.
But he could be replacing Miccoli in the near future considering Juventus is prepared to deal him to Palermo.

What if he becomes great and decides to play for the Portugal NT instead of the China NT? ;)

One problem. There is none worthy.
To be honest with you we really need to get out of that "We Need Portguese" mentality. The unjustice (IMO) to Kikin is a pure example of that. If Benfica had a world class striker (regardless of race) they'd be dangerous on a whole new level. If he happened to be Portuguese that would be inspiring and great. But if it was up to me I'm not banking my fate in Benfica as a team & franchise solely on whether or not he is Portuguese. I understand we may not have the funds for a world class striker.. but developing a young striker regardless of race wouldn't be a bad idea to me at all. As long as he's worth it. If you consider Benfica a world class team then we need to start thinking like one.
