i'm sure at some point this season we will see them together, and hopefully they really do learn to play along side each other... arteta dropping deeper, almost to dmid - pulling all the strings, and felli being the end to end, in between, clean it all up, go forward more attacking mid. If the manage that, then we will be a force to be reckoned with in midfield.

but in the time they did play together, they weren't quite there. that's where my doubt comes in.

We shall see when he's fit again.

Dont think they have played together that much to be honest. Fells 1st season he hardly played there and when Arteta came back last season, Fell got injured very quickly
Feel a bit sorry for Rodders to be honest, he has all this promise but no position to claim his own at the moment which is good in 1 respect

Since you hate Jags so much, have you not thought about Rodwell at Centre Back?

Thought about it, decided it would be a total waste of his talent and then dismissed it.
Its bloody typical, we wait for a world class player to appear and 2 appear at once in the same position

    random musings

i hope bilyaletdinov has a strong second season. itd be nice if he could round his game out and get on the pitch more and work some magic. some of our best strikes last season came from him and he spent so much time on the bench.

if heitinga, distin and jags are all fit i would have a hard time figuring which two to start. heitinga was a rock at cb last year. distin took a long time to get fully fit but once he did he was really solid too. and of course jags is an ace.

i thought osman played really well in the middle when he got some chances last season. such a shifty dribbler. if everyones healthy he probably wont get many chances.

i hope coleman goes on loan for part of the season to blackpool. good way for him to get some time in the league with neville and hibbert healthy. if we get the injury bug bad again then we could bring him back. high hopes for seamus.

finally i just want some ********ing good health and fortune to start the season. missing out on europe could be a blessing in disguise. if we could continue our form from the end of last season right out the gate it could get really fun. lets get some silverware for moyes.

    cant wait for the 14th

I want to start the season with a 6-1 schooling of Blackburn.

I mean its only fair considering last year's beginning right?

    For Jag

Arsenal have had a £14million bid for Everton’s Phil Jagielka turned down.

The England international, 27, has recovered from a serious knee ligament and is seen by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as the experienced centre-back to steady his defence.

But Everton manager David Moyes is not prepared to lose a key man, already aware that he may have a problem in hanging onto midfielder Mikel Arteta given Manchester City’s efforts to sign him.

However, Arsenal are set to test Everton’s resolve by tabling a revised bid of £16m.

Personally would have bit there hands off for a 28m average player who has looked shaky since coming back from a major injury

Timmy Howard is the last American on the team. Arnoux and Peterlin were not re-upped.

A ball playing defender is exactly what we lack though. Every time one of our Centre Backs gets the ball, they just pump it long, why not give Jack a try, he's cool on the ball got good distribution and can link up with the Midfield and retain possession. It's good to have two players in Jonny and Jack who can switch seamlessly from Centre Half to Holding Mid.

    Re: Yannick Djalo?

He'll go to Tottenham without a doubt, I heard there was some sort of swap deal going on,

Defour won't go for anything under the 15-20 million euro range. Likely closer to 20 than 15. Standard are loaded (by Belgian standards) and don't have to sell.

Not really, It's a rare sight to see Jonny play out from the back he normally distributes it across the back line for one of the others to hoof upfield.

Ian Ladyman (Daily Mail) said on Twitter that he's been told directly by City that Mancini was just being polite and that they have no interest at all in signing Donovan.
