There's no way any 1st division Spanish club would take Montero in his current status.
He was never linked to any actual "major" European club. The team he was most strongly linked to was Real Betis, which is kind of a crappy Spanish team, and that was back when he looked like a promising player.
If at a personal level Montero actually wants to stay in Seattle but he's just having a bad season, I'd say we should give him a chance. And that's because even when he's having horrible games he makes things happen. He attracts marks, he set up plays, he's still one of the best passers on the team, and he's young and talented enough to make a comeback. And if we bring a guy like Forlan that would help him in that process.
We shouldn't be talking about getting rid of a guy like that. Instead we should make room on our salary cap by getting rid of guys like Jaqua and Noonan that make absolutely no contribution to the team.

I know he was linked to Fulham and CSKA Moscow and I think Wolfsburg as well.

When was the last time any of those teams made it deep into a champions league? Actually when was the last time Fulham even made it to a CL. I guess we have very different definitions of what a major European team is. Now this is completely irrelevant and not even the point. My whole point was that Montero should stay and given a chance if he wants it, and that there's no way Atletico Madrid or any Spanish team is taking him now.

Fulham was in the Europa Final a year ago (not this year). Same year Wolfsburg qualified for the CL group stage and eventually lost in the Europa quarters, to Fulham. Moscow won the UEFA Cup and Super Cup in 2005.

They are big Euro clubs, and in order to be a "major" club you don't have to be named Arsenal/Chelsea/ManU/Munich/Milan/Madrid/Barcelona.

anyway, what about any of the following ?

    Carew/Suazo/McFadden/Harewood/Caracciolo .... they're all on a free right now.

John Carew would be a great DP. Physical and technical, good header.

Is he still under contract with Hoffenheim? Based on various articles I've seen he's declined an offer to continue to play there, but I've seen some others implying that the $9m was a transfer fee..

Could only find his original contract of June 9/09 for three years which would put him at 1yr left ... however, there were issues with license and contract with the Bundesliga and FIFA (due to a heart condition that has since turned out to not be a defect at all) so I'm not sure where the actual contract stands now.

Regarding Ngasa, here is a tweet from Jeremiah...

"Can confirm that Tanzanian winger Mrisho Ngasa is indeed on his way to trail with #sounders. Expect full write up by @Sounderatheart."

right... agreed, kind of annoying to hear people say that...

MLSR is only good as the source that gives it to them is...

*laugh* No... MLSR has absolutely no integrity. They don't validate any of the things their sources say, they just run with it and hope they are right. Periodically they are, but more often then not they completely miss.
