Prior to the CL final, GdS reported that Juve is very close to a deal with Barcelona for a Salas-Gabri swap. Some money will be involved too.

In today's La Stampa, Moggi said that management will evaluate the scattered youths like Blasi and Miccoli and that is going to be the whole transfer campaign. If this is true Moggi is a complete idiot and has given Juve the kiss of death for next seasons Champions League hopes!

    Summer transfer

I think Salas will go, but not for Gabri. rather, look for him to return to River Plate. What Juve needs is a center forward, like Christian Vieri. Replace Trezeguet with him and the result from Wednesday would have been much different.

According to Udinese's owner Gino Pozzo Juve will buy Pizzarro in a few days There are some small differences on the price, but an agreement is very close.

Pizzarro could be coming to replace Camoranesi who is rumored to be joining Inter.

Today is the first official day of rest for Juve. Training for 2003-04 will begin July 18. Next week Moggi and Lippi will meet to discuss their plans for the market strategy. On the table for discussion are the contracts of Davids, Trezeguet and Camoranesi.

Juve needs to find someone in the defense and the names mentioned are Dainelli and Legrottaglie. An important player in the defense may leave, possibly Iuliano. Juve needs to evaluate the partial ownership of Camoranesi, the contracts of Davids, Trezeguet, Del Piero and the likely sale of Salas and Zalayeta. The priority is to find a backup for Nedved and Trezeguet.

Moggi & Giraudo met with representatives of Lazio concerning Jaap Stam. Inter are also interested. Juve are also interested in Corradi and Fiore of Lazio and may be willing to trade Di Vaio and either Maresca or Blasi. Legrottaglie is still a big target as well. There is also a short interview with Giuseppe Sculli and discussion of where he will be next season.

Corradi continues to impress with his ability in the air and to score goals....I bet Juve adds him..I think he can end up being the next best thing to Vieri...

I wouldn't mind seeing Di Vaio go to Lazio....and also I was impressed with what little I've seen of Maresca at Piacenza...he might be a more complete midfielder than Fiore...

Manuele Blasi was announced as Juve's first acquisition of the summer. He's actually already Juve property but spent last season on loan with Perugia. He's a central midfield and was referred to as "il nuovo Davids". We'll see. At the press conference, Moggi also announced that the return of Maresca and Miccoli will be the only other new arrivals this summer because Juve needs to think about the balance sheet. I find this very hard to believe, but anyway that's what he said.

    Here's more background on Blasi - http://www.gazzetta.it/scalcio/ricerca_index.jhtml?PageToLoad=SchedaGiocatore&idAnagrafica=1140

Yeah, that's the main reason I've done some pbp's here off RAI radio broadcasts lately. Fun to work on my understanding of the spoken word.

I believe Corradi may be coming over from Lazio, hopefully not for Di Vaio. I like the names of Legrottaglie from Chievo, as he is a good young central defender who scores goals, and either Bonera from Brescia (if they lower the price) or Dainelli. Montero is a leader, but is starting to show his age. Big name could be coming for the midfield (Veron) but only if Juve give up Thuram. I would not do that after last season.

Juve to give Buffon to Arsenal for Wiltord and 10 mill.

Latest rumors on tribalfootball.com. What Gk will Juve get for 10 million? Buffon's performances warrant a transfer to beat Zinedine Zidane's exorbitant one a few years back. Buffon comes to play day in, day out.

If they get Corradi, definitely. And perhaps even if they don't.

The "triade" of Moggi, Bettega and Giraudo will travel to the Czech Republic this week to see the Czech Republic-Moldova match and scout Zdenek Grygera (23 years old, left-sided defender of Sparta Prague). The speculation is that the triad is going there to finalize a deal, it would be a little unusual for them to travel like this just to scout a player. If Grygera comes, Zambrotta could move permanently to the right and Juve would have a better negotiating position concerning Camoranesi.

    Buffon

Buffon not only should remain with Juve, I think he should be the captain (with excuses to Del Piero). He always plays with his heart and is a leader. Think about his displays in big games, a big time keeper, the best in the world.

Lots of news to report! Well, lots of rumors to report, we'll see how much of it turns out to be true.

    http://www.gazzetta.it/gazzetta/common/popup.jhtml?eomid=1.0.54790436&class=/Calcio/Squadra/Juventus

Juve is concentrating on renewing the contracts of Del Piero, Davids, Camoranesi and Trezeguet. Trezeguet wants the raise that Moggi promised him last year - if he doesn't get it, he may be sold to Valencia. If Juve can't come to an agreement to buy Verona's half of Camoranesi, they may work out an exchange in which Camoranesi will go to Inter and Fabio Cannavaro will come to Juve. (Not sure if Inter would get Juve's half or if they would get Verona's half too, it doesn't say - ed). Thuram is still not in agreement with Lippi on where he should be playing (Thuram wants to play in the center). The disagreement could lead to Thuram heading to Manchester United.

La Gazzetta has a special "Calcio Mercato" section up that deals with all the comings and goings of the offseason. Even if you can't read Italian it's worth checking out.

A few translations that might come in handy...

acquisti e cessioni - buys and sells
    comproprieta - co-ownership
    obiettivi - objectives
    rosa - roster
    giocatore - player
