Nice area. At least it was when I lived there. Was where better restaurants were as well. Spoil sport.

TeslaBros always so weird Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), has been accused by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov of remotely disabling his Cybertruck. What Happened: Kadyrov, who has been in power in Chechnya since 2007, alleged that his Cybertruck was “remotely disabled” by Musk. The Chechen leader voiced his discontent in a Telegram post, where he described Musk’s actions as unmanly. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/putin-ally-unveiled-tesla-cybertruck-234631504.html
How... odd... Tesla reportedly turned off Kadyrov's cybertrucks back in September.. https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/20/business/chechnya-kadyrov-musk-tesla-cybertruck-disabled
Josh Marshall has a post talking about why DOGE is going after biomedical research. One of the reasons he gives is that the Silicon Valley cult thinks AI is about to become powerful enough to do the research without actual scientists. All that will be needed is coders.
I’ve interacted with them in SF. Shortly after saying something like “holy crap, that person just made an idiotically unsafe lane change and is now going ridiculously slow, what’s up with them?” Catch up to the car and…nothing, that’s what’s up with them.
If it was any other company, I'd say they would never make that announcement without having done a lot of testing on the down-low. And maybe Tesla did, but given their history of announcements it doesn't fill me with confidence.
You know, I often do the glance-and-drive by when such behavior is witnessed. Many times I get very angry when people are looking down at their phone when driving. But I get much more concerned when the person is giving their full attention to driving their vehicle and they still suck at it. Not sure what I'd do with a driverless car. I probably need to buy some cones and have my passenger place them on the hood. https://www.npr.org/2023/08/26/1195695051/driverless-cars-san-francisco-waymo-cruise

I've not been keeping up with this thread, has anyone posted the April news? United Kingdom: Tesla had been doing relatively well so far this year, with its year-to-date sales only down by 1 per cent for the first four months. This was thanks in large part to a strong March, with 7,164 Teslas sold, which was in line with the same month a year earlier and contributed to a similar first quarter to that seen in 2024. However, Tesla saw its sales numbers plummet from 1,352 in April of 2024 to only 512 in April 2025, a drop of 62.13 per cent. Germany: For the first four months of 2025, a total of 5,820 Tesla cars were sold in Germany, down 60.4 per cent from the same period a year ago. Sweden: Tesla’s new car sales in April were down 80.7 per cent from the same month a year ago, dropping to their lowest levels since October 2022. Norway: Sales dropped over 55 per cent from the previous month and were down 31 per cent from the same month a year earlier. https://thedriven.io/2025/05/08/tes...f-in-germany-and-uk-even-as-ev-market-surges/ France: Tesla sales dropped 59.4% year-on-year in France last month Denmark: Sales fell 67.2% year-on-year https://www.reuters.com/business/re...n-564-april-tesla-sales-drop-5945-2025-05-01/
So, according to this free article quoting a very expensive article, Tesla has been doing testing, but as of April they still have drivers in the cars and may have them when the service starts in June, if it does start. Looks like they will start with only 10 cars and only cover part of the city. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-seriously-struggling-robotaxi-185355484.html The way Waymo works is if the car thinks it's in trouble, it contacts a remote site and a human can remote control the car. It's disconcerting if they aren't testing that kind of system this late in the game.
All I can see in my mind's eye is a bunch of Parrotheads headed toward Florida with glazed over eyes saying in their best Batman/Capt. Kirk voice, "must... get... to... a beach..." I'll say that they rule when they're undisturbed by humans..
