Luna also had an impressive run that ended in a save from Steffen...

Not that one game should decide such things but Cremaschi was nowhere near the level of Luna and McGlynn today.

Also in Olympic news, McGwire left with an arm (elbow or shoulder) injury, not sure how bad it is but the clock is ticking...

    Some might say "muy malo"

Cade Cowell ends his first semester at Chivas de Guadalajara with only 1 goal scored in 18 games in the LigaMX (closing tournament) and eliminated in the league.

Yeah.. I don't have him in the roster anymore.

Another one is that Taylor Booth hasn't been particularly strong since his return from injury. He still has a few games to go.

This might open the door for Luna.

I was thinking the exact same thing this morning when I saw Utrecht were down 3-0 and Booth wasn't doing much, Luna over Booth currently.

By my count Bogert’s roster size for the Olympics is 20 while as of now it’s still officially at 18. Also this must have been filmed before the McGuire injury this weekend, was not mentioned.

    McGuire should be okay

Berhalter also said Zimmerman and Vazquez have emerged as overage options.

I am feeling pretty good about this projection

    1) Schulte
    2) Slonina
    3) Reynolds
    4) Harriel
    5) Zimmerman
    6) McKenzie/Sands/Trusty
    7) Neal
    8) Tolkin
    9) Tessmann
    10) Morris
    11) Busio
    12) McGlynn
    13) Aaronson
    14) Luna
    15) Yow
    16) Paredes
    17) McGuire
    18) Vazquez

Yep. I like that roster too.

A few weeks ago I had Cowell making the roster, but he's done nothing to cement his place.
I'm certainly fine with Luna grabbing the final position.

McKenzie's callup to the Copa roster does put his participation with the Olympic group into question.
They do have 5 CBs at that camp (Richards, Ream, Robinson, CCV, and McKenzie), and why would you need 5 CBs. So its still possible McKenzie is sent as the overage guy to the Olympics.

I would say that with Morris, McGlynn, Tessmann, Busio, etc. in that central midfield.................I'm not sure the added versatility of Sands plays.

As far as the overage #9, the only other real possibility I see is Ferreira.

Not disagreeing with this list but the notable omissions here would be Brady, Wiley, Dietz, Campbell, Vargas, Puktsas, Cremaschi, Esmir, Booth, Gutierrez, and Cowell (and I may be forgetting a name or two).

And the fact that two players who started World Cup qualifiers and who played in major Euro leagues aren't even notable omissions... Bello and Konrad de la Fuente.

Otasowie and Uly have USMNT caps and are a Olympic eligible... and aren't even in consideration as omissions because they aren't even in the game anymore.

There have been some interesting guys who popped up- but just too late (like Downs).

I will say this.. Cole Bassett has been great this season. He deserves to be called up to the June camp and fight it out in one last chance. That camp will have about 22-24 players, so there will be opportunities for fringe guys.

I don't have Cole on any projected roster that I've done, but I'd rather go with a player who has been raising his game with genuine, tangible production than someone who has been getting by on several years of hype.

Yow forced his way onto the team, IMHO. Bassett is trying to do the same. I think he will come up short, but he's been really, really good. I respect that.

Cole has been unreal this year. Colorado spent a lot on Djordje and he has started to heat up a bit after a cold start but Bassett has been bossing it from Day 1. I am not sure he has had a poor game. Opposing teams are having a hard time picking up his late runs into the box. Super aggressive as a double-pivot. Doesn't have a ton of pace but does everything else pretty darn well. I too think he may be a tad late to the party but that doesn't mean he hasn't earned a serious look.

I hope the coaches don't confuse Sand's talent mediocrity with positional versatility.

Could Maloney be a better version of that?

A guy who played both CB and DM at a Bundesliga level this year?

I had the three overage guys as Trusty Vazquez McKenzie... Gregg mentioned Trusty Vazquez Zimmerman... I think it would have made more sense to switch Zimmerman and McKenzie since the former has played more with the A team guys and the latter has played thousands of minutes alongside Trusty, but whataever...

I do like the Lennard Maloney CB/DM suggestion but I would hope it's for Zimmerman who doesn't have much of a future with the USMNT given his age, not Trusty who *may*... having said that not sure we need the CB to also play DM when the roster is likely to have both Tessmann and Morris.

Also with Lund getting injured today I hope the replacement is someone who won't take away from teh Olympic roster. Antonee Robinson will play every single minute as he always does. Don't waste Tolkin. Maybe Dejuan Jones or if it's a younger guy, Caleb Wiley who is unlikely to make the Olympic roster.

Chances we’ll see Bassett and a few others in the June camp who really haven’t been with the group?

Sullivan, Gutierrez, and Gomez come to mind as examples.

My two rosters after seeing the call ups... since there were 27 assuming Tim Tillman misses out, also assuming Dejuan Jones replaces an injured Lund

    Copa America (26)
    GK: Turner, Horvath, Johnson
FB: A Robinson, Scally, Jones, Moore
CB: Richards, M Robinson, Ream, CCV, McKenzie
M: Cardoso, Adams, McKennie, Musah, Reyna, M Tillman, De La Torre (+ T Tillman)
W: Pulisic, Wright, Weah, B Aaronson
    F: Balogun, Sargent, Pepi

    Olympics (18, 3 o)
    GK: Schulte, Slonina
    FB: Reynolds, Harriel, Tolkin
CB: Zimmerman (o), Trusty (o), Neal
M: A Morris, Tessmann, McGlynn, Sullivan
W: Paredes, P Aaronson, Luna, Yow
    F: McGwire, Vazquez (o)

Walker seems to be a general team leader and he's definitely the guy organizing the defense when he's out there. I suspect that if they can get him, they will take him because the team is going to be very young. I don't know that Trusty can play that part of the role.

I get what you mean and just I put Zimmerman on my Olympic roster. In general I just have a preference for players who will be relevant for the overall pool going forward. So uh, not Sean Johnson for example, when guys like Celentano can't get a look. I also worry about a "Brian McBride at the Olympics" situation where he's just a different generation than the U-23s and it doesn't work. McKenzie and Trusty together would fit right in, being just a couple years older than the other guys at 25. Even Maloney who looks even older than Zimmerman but is apparently 24.
