There sure are a bunch of high profile teams coming stateside in the next several months. (ManU, Real Mad, Barca, Celtic, etc). Guessing that these matches will draw big crowds and big bucks, too. So here's my scenario:

Somewhere in the stands, CEO has got the foresight, and deep pockets to make this a regular occurance... How bout a summer league where big name teams match up against each other at football stadiums around the US? Round robin, tourney format, whatever.

This would be soccer's version of the pre-season NIT of college basketball. Good way to promote the sport and get the attention of the public/media.

    Just a thought.

You mean like the Champions League, but in the US?

Yeah, sure, UEFA's going to let that happen.

A summer league? I thought there was one already.
I think it's called MLS or something like that.

I liked this idea the first time I saw it, back when it was Bill Cox's "International Soccer League" from 1960-1965.

Oh wait, I hate this idea...

Didn't they try that back in the old USA league?

Parmalat Cup in '95 and Gotham Cup in '99 at the Meadowlands were fun, but had limited attendance.
