For historical purposes, it will be useful to note that the Summer of 2020 saw: 1) COVID-19 pandemic limited many YA opportunities as Americans were generally prohibited from entering Europe without an EU passport or residency/work permit. Players were unlikely to be going on trials to multiple clubs in the hopes of catching on somewhere unless they were already in Europe before the prohibitions came down.Players who have already been vetted by European clubs can come in after getting their permits (usually meaning the contract is signed). 2) Brexit residency rules come into effect on January 1st, 2021. This is the last chance for those players with EU passports to come into the UK without going through the stringent WP process (which may change as well). A player settled by December 31st, 2020, should be okay and will be grandfathered under current rules. Those with UK & Irish passports will be able to come into the UK to play without a WP.
