Man City are trying to cut wages. It's highly unlikely they'd even think about bidding for someone in Morientes' range.

Leeds are not in the Premiership, and they are also cutting wages and selling players.

Liverpool are the only real possibility, but they are have all but signed Cisse as their major move this year. Again, highly unlikely.

For the first two teams, signing Morientes wouldn't make much difference in their challenging us. Liverpool could gain from him, but again I doubt they'll be going in for another forward.

Hey, i hate Man City, Liverpool, and Leeds as much as the next guy.

That said, I have a very deep and personal hatred for Arsenal and Chelsea.

that, and, like Achtung said, i'm thinking REALISTICALLY here.

Well, personally I don't think we will be signing Rooney or any other forward...

However, should the right defender become available... say a good young right back, I think we might go in for him. I fancy Wayne Bridge, but we cannot get him, he might make a good LW for us... he has impressed me greatly and having him on LW occasionally would increase our defensive capability...

What I wanted to ask before I blurted out the crap above was...

do u guys think we will sign anymore players, and if so what positions will they fill?

I firmly believe United will get Rooney. I think Ruud will stay and somehow United will get this transfer done.

I firmly believe you need to sober up BEFORE you post such nonsense.
Pay 50 Mill GBP for an 18 year old to sit the bench behind Saha, Smith, and OGS? An 18 year w/ a bad temper, and can be a bit spoiled at times?

    Very bad idea.

Come on now use some common sense. Do you really think Man Utd will pay that kind of money for some lil pudgey kid? The board was reluctunt to pay 30 mill for Ferdinand, and we NEEDED a centerback back then.We dont need Rooney, so you really think that we'll pay 50 mill POUNDS??

    Pffffft....

Anyway as for man utd's transfer dealings, maybe we could squeeze out a deal for Gilardino, but I doubt he's willing to leave Italy as most Italians dont get national call ups if they play somewhere else.

Looking good, but then 'The Mirror' is a skank tabloid and the Daily Mail is a midsheeter. I still think we're aiming for Rooney this summer for the reasons stated in 'fergie emulating '99' thread with Saha as Ruud's understudy not a starter beside him. It just makes perfect sense to me and it's how we've always played when in a 4-4-2. If anything the two #9 route would be the shocking first, not Rooney and Ruud.

I'm pretty sure Ruud wont be sold either. His comments after Holland were knocked out were convincing. I think we're gonna have to wait a while for this to be resolved one way or the other which is a problem. If we can't get Rooney we have other business to tend to in the transfer market and time waits for no man/club.

Let us hope the journo's have got it right... interesting that they've been reporting the same story for near 2weeks now about Rooney's preference. Sometimes there is no smoke without fire...

Well, I don't think it is a bad idea. I don't believe he is going to sit on the bench. He would play most games in my opinion. And also, United needs to do something big. They have not done much to make me believe they will be better than last season. Chelsea is getting better by the minute as they just signed Kezman and Arsenal are just solid and relatively young with their core of talent. They do not need to do much. United needs someone like Rooney to inject the club with energy. He not only brings his uncanny goal scoring ability, but he also would bring hope for United that in the transfer market dominated recently by Chelsea that United can go out and capture a top name like Rooney. It's a good idea and I hope it happens.

The agent of Parma striker Alberto Gilardino has told Goal.com that his client will definitely be leaving the club this summer.
"Gilardino interests Roma, Juve, Manchester United and. Real Madrid," said Beppe Bonetto. "He’ll play for one of those four." Any favourite? "No favourite team, the only sure thing is that Gilardino will leave Parma."

    Motterman,

I believe the deal w/ Juventus is just about done. I reckon he doesn't leave Italy because of his international aspirations~

phishy is right I think, Gilardino stays at home in Italy.

I don't really like the purchase, or the attempt, of Rooney. Sure the kid has talent but look at what he has done recently in the EPL and not at one major tournament. Too often players play well at a tournament and then don't do much for the club (Nicky Butt anyone). Maybe I'll be proved wrong but I just don't see this as that good for a deal at this time.

Pretending Rooney was signed for 50 mil (ManU woule be smoking crack to pay even half that price)...he'd would not start in front of Saha or RVN...done deal.

Rooney, should he control his flab and prove to do well in the EPL next year, would be a decent target next year....maybe.

Now with gilardino some how the style of italian football is so different than english and i don't think that he would be willing to leave italy although he is going to leave parma .

now i honestly think the better choice would be fernando torres.he is practically the same as rooney without the temper and takes long range shots and has the eye for scoring goals ,scoring about 20 to 22 goals in la liga last season.plus he only cost about 16 to 25 million pounds

I'm beginning to truly despite the PLC. I understand that they want to make money. But the amount they're apparently getting more and more greedy. After a season in which the team's performance was far below standards, they're refusing to take proper corrective measures.

If David Gill truly believes that Alan Smith and Gabriel Heinze is going to solve the teams' goal problems, he's an idiot. Otherwise, he's just the front man for a greedy PLC that doesn't give a damn about the team's performance, so long as they finish 4th.

That's our ambition - 4th. Let's not kid ourselves. Poor Fergie. Now whatever happens next season, he really won't be to blame.

    I disagree...

We all despise the PLC, and yes we would like to be able to purchase all the bigname players we covet, however I don't think that the team needed a serious overhaul... the only positions that I think needed looking after other than defense were LW and DM... we have alot of CM's and maybe after we sell off what we have, we may go looking for a Keano replacement.... Yes we need some cover for Giggs, but if OGS can duplicate his form, of the season before last playing at RW, Ronaldo can play LW just fine.

The team floundered because we lost Rio and several other defenders at the same time.. adding Rio, a fit Brown and Heinz will make the difference... Saha and Ruud only played a few games together and when they did, we scored goals... Ronaldo is getting better and better and I expect him to contribute a few this season, as well as create even more...

We are the strongest team in the Prem once Rio is back and in shape.
