A Brazilain Paper wrote today that on the 25th Conebol will anounce that the Sulmericana Champ will play a match against the Libertadores Champ to decide which team goes to the 2009 Libertadores. This because the Lib champ will now not have direct entrance in the next year Lib and the sponsers of the SulAmericana want more impiortance put to their competition....anyone confirm this from other sources?

    here is the Brazilain source

How reliable is that source? Sounds like an absurd idea.

The champion of the Sudamericana and the Libertadores play the Recopa, so are they playing it sooner than usual(Normally it would be played in July of 2009)?

Also how's LDU Quito doing in their league? Would not they still qualify if they would have not won the cup? Because if they would be qualified anyway, then the whole idea is absurd. Well CONMEBOL making a diaster because sponsorship is not a surprise...

Well there in the Chivas-Inter broadcast they more or less explained it. The winner of the Recopa would qualify to the Libertadores, but i suppose that's in case they aren't qualified, but it's unclear if they'd change the usual schedule of the Recopa, or if they'd keep it and use it for 2010. Sounds quite silly to me.

It's not a bad idea... at least something would be in play when they play those silly Recopa matches.

Well, for the description and what they said it's the Recopa, not the Sudamericana which would have a modification, but i still think that it would be applied if the winner of the Recopa is not qualified for the following Libertadores.

Who can Inter face in the finals?

I hope Inter wins because it'll show what happens when we send a team that actually takes the tournament seriously because they can't compete for anything in the domestic league (Libertadores spots or escaping relegation). The other teams that went had hopes with the Libertadores.

    Argentino Jrs ou Estudiantes.

Pelo o que eu estou vendo dos dois o Inter entra como favorito. Mas sao equipes argentinas entao e' sempre bom ter cuidado. Mas acredito que o Inter vai ganhar a copa.

    According to this link:

    http://esporte.ig.com.br/futebol/20...ca_mais_distante_da_libertadores_2130387.html

Peru's soccer federation has until Dec 17 to work out the issues, and if the Peruvians succeed, FIFA's suspension will be revoked, thus ensuring that the 3 Libertadores spots will indeed be taken by Peruvian teams.

The link also says there is speculation on 2 possibilities of filling those spots. One would be a draw by which the winning countries would allow the local associations to choose which club would play. The other, more "remote," would be Fluminense (2008 Libertadores runner-up) and Internacional and Estudantes da Prata (2008 Copa Sul-Americana finalists) taking the spots. But the link further says that there would be opposition by CONMEBOL countries that the 3 spots go to neither Brazil nor to Argentina.
