So the 2015 Sudamericano Sub-20 is right around the corner.

The tournament, which will be held in Uruguay this time, is important because it grants slots to the 2016 Olympics as well as the 2015 U-20 World Cup ----
    • The best team (excluding Brazil) will qualify to the Olympics. The runner-up/second best team will play a playoff against a CONCACAF representative, with the winner getting a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics as well...
    • The top 4 teams will be granted spots in the U-20 World Cup to be played 4 months later in New Zealand.

    List of players called up:

We begin our trek in the first stage by playing for the most part every 2 days (January 14-22) vs. Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Bolivia -- the other teams in Group A. The top 3 teams then advance to the final stage, where the qualifications to the cups are decided.

After the disgrace that was the 2013 Sudamericano Sub-20, which saw Argentina knocked out in the first stage on home soil and therefore ineligible for the U-20 World Cup, we must reinforce our traditionally strong youth NT history... although its never good to have Humberto Grondona in charge of your team.

Nice post loco. As usual, River Plate gives the most players to the national team. No surprise as its the best youth system in the world.

Mamanna has gained some valuable experience. A kid who has lost both his parents at a young age now has played a continental cup final. He has a lot of class.

Batalla is a crack. He did very well in the sub 17 world cup, and even real madrid was scouting him.

Simeone blows hot and cold. I don't think he'll ever be a crack, but he could do well this tournament. He's going to have a Julio Cruz type career IMO

Driussi has been a flop at River senior team, but he's always done well for the argentina teams. Hopefully, he can do well in this tournament and gain confidence for the real deal at River

Tomy Martinez has instances where he appears to be a crack. But he needs to get more consistent. I may be mistaken, but is he a year younger than the rest? One year in this age group does make a huge difference.

Also regardless of what happens, we should judge these kids. Pezzella was Argentina's best player in the Sub 20 2011, then struggles for years with lack of playing time and injury, but now he's been River's best player over the last month. The kid is a crack.

Don't know how old you guys are, but at 18-20 i wasn't even close to the athlete i am now and I'm 26. We need to give the kids time to grow

Not sure how many kids we have abroad right now. But even if we did, I doubt they would be released. We had issues with Dybala and I believe Icardi a couple years back.

Other than messi its hard to think of an argentina player who was developed abroad. I guess Romero is one since he just played 6 games at Racing.

There's Icardi, but he's only played one game from argentina and it was only for 4 minutes. He's got potential, but so far all he's really done is smash goals past sassuolo. To put it in percepective, Lamela scored more goals in his 2 years at Roma than Icardi has so far at inter, and lamela isn't a striker

On paper Argentina should win it, but remember winning isn't as important as just making the world cup and olympics.

The problem is Grondona is an incompetent manager. However, this group with him as DT won the Sub 17, which has traditionally been an age group we have sucked in. The Sub 20 we normally do well in, but there's also the fact that its more competitive. Most of these kids are professionals and its a different game than Sub 17. We'll see if Grondona is up to the task.

Impressive display by Argentina. Ángel Correa was the MOTM scoring once and giving two assists. Gio Simeone scored twice. Tomás Martinez anotó un golazo. I'm surprised of the performance of Correa considering he hasn't play a competitive match since summer of last year when he was with San Lorenzo.

Guys --- do you know what Correa had in his heart? I've heard so many different things, but I believe they're saying it was a heart tumor? So it was cancer? Is he completely ok?

    He played very well yesterday.

He's okay now. He had the surgery last year. Fortunately it was a benign tumor and not cancerous.

Please no one take this the wrong way, but I hope that now you all have seen 5 of 11 starters, and a 6th who came off the bench, from River Plate, you all will maybe take more of an interest in my club. We seriously do produce the best players in the world, including 4 who played the world cup final.

Not saying you should stop supporting you're european clubs, but remember where these guys came from.

I am sorry if I am over the top at times, my passion for my club is just too great. Lets see Argentina win 5-2 again on Friday and make the Rio Olympics

    VAMOS ARGENTINA CARAJO

Well that was a weak display..

I missed the Ecuador match, but I figured they had played well since they scored 5 goals.

However, this game vs. Paraguay was horrible.. Completely clueless -- no tactics, no ideas, just pure directionless crosses. VERY reminiscent of our recent Sudamericano Sub-20 displays.

Sure, it's not the same level of players of some of the past U-20 teams we've had (1997 -- Cambiasso, Riquelme, Aimar, Samuel.... 2001 -- Saviola, Maxi Rodriguez, D'Alessandro, Chori Dominguez... 2003 -- Tevez, Mascherano, Cavenaghi, Zabaleta, Gonzalo Rodriguez... 2005 -- Messi, Aguero, Garay, Gago... 2007 -- Di Maria, Aguero, Mauro Zarate, Maxi Moralez), but what is obvious now -- and has been since Pekerman left -- is that those in charge of our youth teams have absolutely no tactical knowledge and do not help our youngsters develop whatsoever.

Can't wait til the day we have a serious coach again.. Til then, we'll continue looking like 11 headless chickens on the field

Seems Humberto Grondona doesn't know what he's doing. He just called one natural full-back. Everyone else plays as CB. He also played with a Línea de 5.

Paraguay parked the bus within the first minute. I'd like to see Leo Suárez for the next match.

I too missed the first game, said I will catch this. And :ROFLMAO:. What was that!? Each attacker basically played for himself. There is skillful players but what else is new? They just can't play play as a team. Humberto is a complete moron, and I do hope Tata appoints his man after the Sub 20 Mundial after middle of the year(Not really sure what is going on with that though). But yeah, Humberto shouldn't be a manager at a Subway let lone the youth. They have no meaning of teamwork. I know it is a single display, but, come on. If he is going to leave regardless of results, then fine, I am okay with going to NZ and Rio in a couple years. But, if he is going to stick around, then no, I'd rather not qualify for either tournament.

Tambien Correa, y Leo Suarez anotaron.

How good is Cholo's son, it seems that he's scoring in every game and the current top scorer.
From the way he scores, it seems that he's a goal poacher?
