At least we can stop talking about this guy. I was getting tired of the soap opera-like drama.

Neven has made his decision....end it all now. Everyone at the USSF knows why this happened.

Please respect his right to choose. No need for personal comments which make the contributor look stupid and ill-informed.

I know Neven really well and he did not take this decision on a whim. It is all over on the US front....please write about somebody else.

Exactly. I would've loved for Neven to suit up for the US but I think all fans should respect his wishes. He has a bright future and this type of thing should spur the US to get their house in order.

this is great for the yanks abroad forum. pretty soon, it will be completely dominated by quasi-americans playing for european national teams. Don't complain though, because the Rossi issue has been settled, and you risk an infraction for speaking out against this absurdity.

This happens all the time, especially with players that have ties to the Balkans. It hurts most when these players have represented your FA at the youth level and had money invested into their development. We (Switzerland) lost three players to Croatia and Serbia in the recent past:

    - Ivan Rakitic (Schalke 04 / Croatia)
    - Mladen Petric (SV Hamburg / Croatia)
    - Zdravko Kuzmanovic (Fiorentina / Serbia)

Rakitic and Kuzmanovic represented Switzerland at the youth level.

We've(Australia) lost plenty of players to not only the Balkans + Italy and Greece as well but also to England and the other home nations:
-Cristian Vieri - Italy(peaked at Inter) his brother at least played for us :S
-Sasa Ilic - Serbia(peaked at Charlton Athletic)
    -Josip Simunic - Croatia(Hertha BSC)
    -Anthony Seric - Croatia(Besiktas)
    -Joey Didulica - Croatia(AZ Alkmaar)
    -Ivan Ergic - Serbia(FC Basel)
-Craig Johnston - England(peaked at Liverpool)
-Tony Dorigo - England(peaked at Leeds)

The most recent bunch of players we are losing and/or lost are:
    -Dean Bouzanis, 18 - Greece(Liverpool)
    -Daniel Georgievski, 20 - Macedonia(Dinamo Zagreb)
    -Aleks Vrteski, 20 - Macedonia(FK Pobeda)
    -Rhys Williams, 20 - Wales(Middlesbrough)
    -Shane Lowry, 19 - Ireland(Aston Vlla)
    -Rostyn Griffiths, 19 - Wales(Blackburn)
    -Alex Cisak, 19 - Poland(Leicester City)
    -Paul Giannou, 19 - Greece(Apollon)
    -Avraam Papadopoulos, 23 - Greece(Olympiakos)

It's bloody annoying, but we made the Croats regret it in 2006, so hopefully we will make the rest of them regret it as well.

All in all, representing your country is an honor, not a right. So if people feel they need to desert the countries that donated the most to their development as players, then f*ck em :D

Bouzanis already declared loyalty to Greece? Wow, I thought he was supposed to be Australia's next great GK. Funny, how players like Lowry, and Griffiths are playing for lesser NT's.

I'm honestly shocked by the amount of players that Australia have ended up losing. Must be a record or something...

Let's not forget that Christian Vieri was born in Bologna (since place of birth seems to be oh-so important around here).

I would have to say, this kid picking a national team is simply about which team will give more international exposure. Its as simple as that, when he tried to play for Germany. It had nothing to do with who he feels more connected with. If it was he wouldent take that long to pick US or Serbia. I think would put him over edge to Serbia was the serbian coach telling him he is the starting CB as soon as he plays and that Serbia is becoming a monster in talent, they are first in WC qualifying, and the Euro's added alot more teams.

    We already know who's next:

    Baggio Husidic

All American midfielder from Chicago currently exploring options for club football in Europe. Born in Bosnia............now a US citizen.

Situations like Rossi and Subotic are just going to happen now that we're developing world class players. Most nations in the world can write a list of players they've lost out on. It's just the way world football works now. We've just gotta do our best.

also, the terrible travel in CONCACAF for a European player has to play a role. Those 3 leg trips to the jungles of central america can't be much fun.
