Are there any other Subbuteo enthusiasts out there in So Cal? Subbuteo was immensely popular in Europe in the 70s & 80s & was THE table soccer game to own & play. For those of you who do not know what this game you can learn more here> We have a club, Southern California Subbuteo Club, & we are looking for new players to join. Whether you played in your youth with your cloth pitch on your bedroom floor, or want to learn about what I think is the most realistic soccer game there is visit our website at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.co m & come join in the fun. At present we meet in Northridge & Simi Valley.
We are meeting this Friday (Feb 1) in Simi Valley. If you are interested in attending contact us through the 'Contact Us' page on the website. http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
Know of it, but have never played it. Where do most Americans get their sets--online? Are they sold retail in the US?
Alas, they are not sold retail in the USA. But there are a couple of really good online suppliers, one in the USA & one in Canada who carry most things you need. You will find links to their websites on the 'Links' page of the Southern California Subbuteo Club's website. http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
Here is a video clip of the game being played -> http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=socalsubbuteo -------------------------------------- http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
Played this game back in the 70's in LA. What a blast from the past! Haven't see it since 1979. Nice to know there are a few other soccer dorks out there. I need to pick up the game online and start teaching my kids. Thanks for the heads up.
Are you still in LA? If so why not come & join us some time? Check the calendar on our website for when & where we are playing. It is always best to know that you will be coming to an game day so we can make sure we have enough pitches & refreshments. -------------------------------------- http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
I'm guessing you didn't notice my location on my profile. Poway is in N. San Diego County. Hell, I'm 100 miles south of the HDC. Simi is way too far to be traveling for anything other than collecting my lottery winnings. You guys enjoy, I'll try to get my kids interested. This is a great way to spend a Saturday, but my kids are still little so I may have to wait a few years. Right now I'm lucky if they will sit on the couch with dear old dad and watch a game or two. They love playing in the street or the park or anywhere else for that matter. No, I think Subbuteo will have to wait for a while.
I did not notice you lived so far away. I have a friend who has his 6 year old son doing Subbuteo-style shoot outs with him. He says he loves it & cannot wait to grow up enough to be able to reach across the pitch. This is where you shoot from five places on the shooting line: Where the shooting line touches the right side line. Level with the right corner of the penalty box on the shooting line. Level with the penalty spot on the shooting line. Level with the left corner of the penalty box on the shooting line. Where the shooting line touches the left side line. You alternate turns. Best of five, then if you are tied sudden death! ------------------------------------- http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
I got a whole load of subbuteo stuff in the loft someplace , used to be well into it had floodlights stands the whole works. Didn't realise people still play it - maybe I should ebay it all
If it is in good condition there are lots of people, mainly in Europe, who collect Subbuteo teams & accessories. They would only be of interest to collectors as the bases are so much better now than they were in the 70s & 80s. Subbuteo players would not use a team from that era to play with. ------------------------------------- http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
I have added some more links to videos of people playing Subbuteo to the home page of the So Cal Subbuteo site, use the link at the bottom of this post. Alas, we in So Cal are not as good as these guys from Maryland (which is the USA's hotbed of Subbuteo). -------------------------------------- http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com
