DALLAS DEFENDER RYAN SUAREZ FINED BY MLS DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE Burn defender sanctioned for conduct following his ejection against Los Angeles on May 17 NEW YORK (Thursday, May 22, 2003) - Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee announced today that Dallas Burn defender Ryan Suarez has been issued a fine of $250 for failing to leave the field in an orderly manner following his ejection from a 1-1 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy on May 17. Suarez was ejected from Saturday's game after earning his second yellow card of the match during second half stoppage time. After being shown a red card by referee Ricardo Valenzuela, the third year professional remained on the field for an extended period of time to protest the decision. In addition to the fine levied today, Suarez already faced the standard one-game suspension and $250 fine that accompany any red card issued during a League match. He will serve his suspension this weekend, missing the Burn's match with the Eastern Conference leading MetroStars at Giants Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET).
$500 total? Not a bad price for a trip to US/Wales. Hell, double that and he can break someone's leg in this two-bit league!
this is ridiculous. I'm trying to remember, but I don't remember him taking too long to leave, but what about Ezra, didn't he bitch about the call for a good while too?
the long haired one argued for awhile. As he walked back to the locker room, he looked up at the North fans and clapped, and we all cheered for him. I would think that was noticed and that was why they maybe gave the fine. He seemed to be enjoying that moment too much.
Yes, MLS should definately penalize players for 'bonding' with fans as the player leaves the field as a result of a red card. I mean, it's not as if we 'want' to ignite passion within the fans. I don't know, maybe we should all by stock in throw-away cell phones.
