Y'all probably heard this. http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/usa1223roster.html Suarez called in to camp for prep for the big Canada showdown (as I wear my white Burn jersey with #3 to work today) . It would be nice to see him get capped this time around. Bobby Rhine not called back in, I guess. Not entirely a surprise.
And if not, he will get the cap in another match. Remember, Il Bruce is just trying to take a look at some players now. If he thinks that Sasha deserves the full 90, so be it. My gut tells me Ryan will see action this game, however.
SUAREZ PLAYING TIME I agree that he will get a look in this next game vs. Canada. I was frustrated when he didn't play against ElSal, but there is a lot time and a lot of games to go. I think picking a player and letting him play a full 90 is the best way to really evaluate a player. Hopefully this is Suarez's turn.
Haven't seen enough of Barrett's play to say Broome is better. But Broome is certainly better than either Heydude or Regis.
I still stand by my prediction that if Broome improves his defending this year, he'll end up with the national team. Speed kills, and Paul's got plenty of it to go around.
Granted; however, Il Bruce is not going to select a player he does not see. If Gbandi is healthy, Broome might have a tought time getting on the pitch. I think we will see Chivas at the wing, and Broome as a defensive replacment or to add some speed against a tired defense. Having written that, I must note that last season was a breakthrough year for Broome, and he might just beat out Chivas for the start at left wing. If Gbandi is not ready, or too rusty to play, of course we will see a lot of Paul.
You honestly want to know what I think? I think that Gbandi is going to be used centrally and Broome is going to stay as the left back. Broome won't beat out Chivas for the left wing position--Chivas is firmly entrenched as a starter.
There's no way Broome starts at L-wing. Broome might be a better defender but Chivas leads the team in assists. Let's not forget why Broome is at L-back.
Then who does Gbandi displace? Morrow or T-Bone? As well as Broome played last year, left back is the only spot up for grabs. I don't see Morrow, T-Bone or Suarez not starting.
I could see Gbandi given a shot at d-mid. The Burn need to find eventual replacements for both Pareja and Deering. Stone has been penciled in to replace one of them; perhaps Gbandi will replace the other.
My guess is that Jeffries plans to use Gbandi on the outside this year. In a few years, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gbandi and Suarez on the inside. Of course, if Morrow or T Bone goes down, and Jeffries doesn't have enough confidence in Morrison (assuming he is still on the team), we might see Gbandi on the inside this year.
You gotta be on his payroll because once Chris G get's on the pitch Broome's days are surely numbered. Broome is not even as good as Brandon Pollard today, w/ the bad wing. He's got 1 thing going for him: speed. But he's positioned so far outta shape that he has to make up too much ground. He may be the worst marker that I can recall since that lazy Argentine spare that was shipped off to the mets b4 his contract expired or old man Tommy Soehn. back to the thread topic, Suarez had better impress bruce or he'll soon find a new mate in Kreis for the dog house. Sasha Victorine is a gritty D-mid, nothing more. Suarez has God given size, speed & ability. He's not a brick wall like tony(sometimes)or dolo but I think he can put some distance b/w himself & Mulrooney/Akwari/Heydude/Digweed
But how do really feel? I have never seen either play in person, so I will not contradict you. However, this does go against much of what was said on these boards. Some are suggesting that he deserves a NAT call-up for his performance. I how many times have you seen G play? Are you sure he is better? Or simply assuming that no one could be worse? I like the discussion. Just trying to get why you said that when so many other have suggested the opposite.
You must be smoking pot or you must be Brandon Pollard. Name one time in the last third of the season that Broome was responsible for a goal. You can't, because he wasn't. The problem is that Suarez doesn't have consistent distribution skills as a RB--he gives away the ball a little too much for the Bruce. Gbandi has so little experience and coming off a knee injury tends to give him another question mark.
Obviously any player coming off an injury will be a question mark until he proves otherwise. But why would swift draft Gbandi knowing full well he'd miss the majority, if not all of his entire rookie season when they had a proven vet in Broome? A midfield move wouldn't be likely W/ stone, martinez, vaca, deering & pareja already jostling for time. Pollard, if memory serves correct, got camp call ups but no caps b4 he theismaned his leg. So what does that say about broome? It's academic now but pollard was a better distributor, better defender & better crosser than broome despite broome's having played forward and midfield for SMU. Suarez may surrender the easy ball now in this stage of his career but potentially he has enough promise to be the best right back in US history if he can just be a little more consistent. Aside from the converted midfielders, no one possesses his offensive skills at that spot. He's a long way from mike burns a epitomizes the evolution of the position.
No, I fully agree. Not to take anything away from Barrett, but Broome has amazing speed. Even though he's not one if the biggest players out there, he's pretty tough and doesn't back down. Unfortunately, this may work against him, because I think Broome is occassionally a little too hot-headed for Bruce's taste.
Nope. I wonder why there's never any press on Broome and the Nats. He's a tenacious defender with speed who likes to get forward when he can but is much more disciplined than, say, Martinez, about his defensive duties. He needs more seasoning, but no more than Suarez. It's had me wondering...
