Yahoo MLS http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/ is having a poll about who will win the 2003 MLS Cup. Currently, the Wizards are in last place one vote behind the Rapids. I mean, the Rapids!! We can't have that, can we?
Yahoo voting appears over. There is currently an article on the Draft: http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news/20021030/superdraftdate.html
Why would I vote thinking the Wizards are going to win MLS Cup 2003? What evidence supports that supposition? Following up an 8th of 12 finish with an 8th of 10 one? Getting the 3rd pick in next year's SuperDraft? Watching Peter Vermes and Preki get one year older? Another year of BunkerBall? I would like us to win MLS Cup next year, and I'm sure I'll think it's our year next April, but right now I don't buy it.
The poll is gone, so the point is moot. I like to get as much activity on any media poll to indicate that somebody out there follows soccer. Particularly the Wizards.
Wouldn't we all but if you are going to start anywhere we need to here in town. Next year could be huge for the Wiz. The Royals are not a very well run orginization right now and won't make many strides to get better in the off-season. So the Wiz front office needs to get it act together and find away to make a dent in this sports market. They won't I am afraid and we will be stuck with the same marketing to kids. Don't get me wrong that is fine but they need to broaden there horizons a little.
