In the USL last night, Detroit trailed away to Phoenix 2-0 when the clock hit 86:00. And before it hit 90:00, they were ahead 3-2. Wild.
I'd like to hear a non biased person explain how so many MLS teams are worth more than European clubs that have 3-4x the revenue, especially with many of those MLS clubs not even being profitable. I know there are built in guarantees that you don't get relegated and have predictability year to year, but there has to be more to it. Also, doesn't MLS overpay the players relative to their level of competition? https://www.sportico.com/feature/soccer-teams-football-club-ranking-list-1234721408/
Is it the scope of the investment? The amount of property/infrastructure that is owned by the clubs as much as it is the players? The overpriced real estate situation in the US? The smaller number of teams in the league? The expectation for growth? I will stop while I am behind. Someone could ask the same thing about Wrexham. How can a club go from being bought for 2.5 million only to explode to 150-200 million in a few years? I think we know but it is fascinating and the reason people get into owning sports teams. If I won the lottery I could probably buy Crawley for 10-15 million and if you got them to the championship you could probably sell on for 60-80 million I would guess. For one thing, Crawley doesn't own their stadium the council does so the current owners are working to try and buy it to add value and flexibility and revenue for the club. The stadium seats just under 6,000 people so would probably have to make upgrades to meet the 7,000 seat minimum. The east stand is only temporary so that might not even qualify. But if you can create half the story and interest as Wrexham has then maybe you get more. Crawley did partner with a local brewery and launched "Red Devils Lager" so there is that. Anyway, I have to go buy another lottery ticket. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/just-found-much-more-rob-142350231.html
My guess would be stadiums. If you take the Wrexham example, Wrexham did not own the stadium when Ryan and Rob bought the team. The first season or two of the show talks about all the loops they had to jump through to acquire the stadium before they could start on the stadium expansion. A lot of teams outside the US don't own their stadiums. Heck, even Chelsea doesn't own Stamford Bridge.
Pretty much every stadium in the US should be part owned by the people that live in the state. If you use public funds to build/renovate, then the citizens should own a proportionate amount of the team
How long have you lived in this country? Haven’t you got the memo that money is people and thus if you have money you are the people
Al Ahly has as many fans at the game as does Inter Miami. Maybe more. Dunny is doing the color for TNT.
He’s made the team have a little more… well Ramos to them. I’ve enjoyed watching them play even if they’re not to the level they were with that bald ******** Suazo
Imagine if instead of spreading all of these club World Cup and gold cup games across the country they did it in like one or two cities for each. It could improve the attendance drastically I mean if you can’t sell out the rose bowl with one of the biggest Mexican clubs and one of the biggest Argentine clubs then things are broken.
Juventus vs Man City, the “standout match” of the group, is being played in the middle of the day today in Orlando, outside, in 88 degree heat and 60% humidity.
Yep, and the players had to endure a driving rain and some hail. At least there were no lightening delays. Man City absolutely dominated Juve.
I agree, but I was hoping for a better match, and Haaland is a Force. In it he scored his 300th professional goal and he’s only 24.
