Other forms of proven cheating are punished by disqualification in the Olympics. I think that would have been appropriate.
Pablo just confirmed chicho hasn’t been with the team since the Portland game as required by the suspension So that’s not ideal
Yeah, I caught that at the game last night talking to some dudes. It was always a part of the suspension. We’ll see how this all looks once he’s back with the team. And also, wrong thread.
Hey man I was both drunk and so dehydrated from the heat last night I’m surprised this isn’t in a usmnt forum thread
3 of the 4 went to PKs. I watched the ending of the CRapids match. GKs determined the outcome with their attempts.
Having all 4 final teams MLS kind of makes it less interesting if you ask me. Come on Liga MX, make this interesting! Next year of course.
I think there will be an even bigger push by Liga MX to get games in Mexico, especially knockout round games.
It’s only fair, and it can’t be hotter or more oppressive than many of the venues already hosting in the US.
Was sure where to post this. An interesting little article about the proliferation of soccer viewing options in the USA. https://worldsoccertalk.com/tv/the-rise-and-fall-of-mls-on-tv-due-to-increased-competition/
I thought this was interesting. I had forgotten about the NASL lawsuit against USSF. https://awfulannouncing.com/soccer/mls-us-soccer-face-unprecedented-scrutiny-in-nasl-trial.html
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/43827636/usl-announces-plans-new-league-rival-mls Anyone think this will work? Will the Pro/Rel fans abandon MLS?
I would imagine that the Pro/Rel fans will be very excited and then start to let everyone know how they are doing it all wrong.
How does USSF recognize Divisions? I can’t imagine they will designate USL’s first division as equal to MLS. So USL can call it Division 1, but it doesn’t mean there will be equality with MLS in the eyes of USSF. For an example from another nation the English Football Championship (commonly referred to as the Championship) is the highest division of the English Football League. However it is not equal to the English Premier League. If I’m wrong somebody let me know. I’m not too familiar with how USSF handles its designations/recognitions.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_soccer_league_system Basically, they need 12-14 teams across all 3time zones with stadiums of 15k capacity and owners worth at least $70M, with a principal owner worth at least $40M. The stadium thingy might be the trickiest for them, but the rest could happen pretty easily.
Ignoring whether it could be successful, I wasn't sure USL could even meet USSF's standards for division 1 leagues. So I went on a stroll through wikipedia and was a little surprised. Current (I mean...I assume it's current) division 1 standards are listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_soccer_league_system A division 1 league needs 12 teams to start (14 by the third year) coverage in the West, Midwest, and Eastern time zones (MST can suck it) 75% of teams to be in metros over 1,000,000 stadium capacity of at least 15,000 for every team Some other stuff about financial viability but the most difficult looked like needing an ownership group with net worth of at least $70 million, where a primary owner worth at least $40 million has at least 35% stake in the team The current USL Championship has 24 (!) teams, cover each time zone, and have a cool dozen or so in metros over 1,000,000 people. That covers the first three bullets. I haven't thought at all about the USL in the last 8 or 9 years, and I naively assumed that they wouldn't be able to meet more than 1 or 2 requirements, so getting those 3 seems like a big deal. The NASL (sad version...or, the sadder version) never met those three requirements. It falls apart at the stadium standards, though. Only Birmingham, Miami, and Oakland play in stadiums over 15k. And I have no idea about owner finances. But! I think USL is on pretty solid footing considering where they're standing: a 2nd-division soccer league in the USA. It seems unlikely that they could put together a viable 1st division in 2 years, but it looks like they have the foundation on which they could actually maybe one day build a functioning multi-league, pro-rel pyramid. But they could also get out over their skis and end up in the same place as every other American professional soccer league not named MLS. I hope they keep on growing and, when the time is right, make a move to rival MLS. MLS isn't going anywhere, and the competition would probably be a good thing for US soccer in the long run. I don't think that MLS really has any pro-rel fans to lose.
If they have 24 teams then 18 would have to be in metros of at least a million to meet the 75% criteria.
I really don’t care much about kits and all, but HAVE YOU SEEN THE LOONS’ NEW KIT?!?!?!?! it might be NSFW. It is being called the Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler bukkake kit
I'm not seeing the issue and I usually have my mind in the gutter. I was going to give STL worst jersey, but then I saw the CRapids. Not a good one released today. SKC might have the best one. ATL just keeps doing the same thing.
I thought about that after I posted. It’s the obvious answer. LOL. Also, the league would be the same. They are creating a Division 1 within it.
He’s had a great season and is possibly moving to Milan. I wish I knew what this is all about. 😳 This is one of the wildest series of events you’ll ever hear:• Udinese earned a penalty kick• Lucca stole the penalty from the team captain Thauvin• Thauvin attempts to block him from shooting• Entire team tries to stop him from taking the penalty• Lucca… pic.twitter.com/YJsZXYOORj— Italian Football TV (@IFTVofficial) February 21, 2025
