While I am a Phillies Phan, I do go to Opening Day in Cincinnati every year--my first was in 1981, though covid and having to be out of town caused me to miss 2019--2021. So I have many fond memories of Riverfront.
This picture will probably have greater reach than we can imagine. The fans it creates as a result will be.... Massive.
Díaz played great offensively but the first goal who is at fault ? Moreira who was defending on the ball ? Mensah who slid over ? Díaz for not getting over there ? CDM ? Moreira was dragged across to the center so either he is suppose to let him go and hand him off to a CDM ? or the CDM or Winger (Díaz ) should cover his area ? Or is it Mensah responsibility? Mensah had to Slide Over and the ball deflects off him and goes in. Bad communication and team defense. Obviously despite formation we don’t know Porters instructions to each player . Did he mention who was at fault or do we just have to speculate ?
Lately, the team has been defaulting to a 4-3-3 shape on defense and in the press probably to make up for Diaz's lack of defense and to hit the other team on the counter. The team has not worked out all the kinks as Nagbe and Etienne were out of position at times last week.
Cucho's smile is so infectious.* I hope LZ has been rejuvenated. With the talent, skills, and money flowing between their fusion, the fangirl in me is very excited to watch this special duo continue to evolve and complement each other on the field. They live in a great city, play in a world-class stadium, and endear themselves to some of the best fans in the states. Playoffs-or-Bust, boys. Onward! *Is it allowable to say infectious?
