Hey, Sormun ought to meet this guy. I think the two of them would enjoy lifting a few beers together. At least they would share the same viewpoints on many United actions.

I'm glad this guy is writing about United and MLS. It's good to see he's helping relate MLS to the English culture. I can't say that I agree with the things he says, and I don't particularly care for his style, but I'm sure many do.

Any DC United story helps in the PR department.

Although I think the writer should go back to Frankfurt! ;)

It does smell of Euro snobbery. But some of the other things Ian writes might even be considered fair. I do enjoy it though. I believe he writes for When Saturday Comes, a fairly popular English football mag.

Actually, I don't think that article is half bad. The relegation stuff is petty Eurosnobbery but his diagnosis of our on field ills is actually pretty good. Sure there are other things - perhaps some more important things - but the downfall of those three players (well, really those two players) is a significant part of our problems.

Pretty good article. He mentioned sitting in the upper tiers I believe.

Those pictures are just priceless. :)

It began Eurosnobbish but got better as it went on.

I've read a bunch of stuff by this guy and I have really enjoyed it. I'm going to read this one now, but you should read all of the articles listed at the bottom of the page. There are some great ones regarding DC United, being a football fan in America, etc.

This was his first piece from the States.

A good read and a caricature of Etch destined to be an avatar. He seemed right on in his analysis, sadly enough for us. With his luck, maybe he can move to LA :)

LOL. If I had 30 shekels to cough up to be a premium member, that'd be a great avatar.

Great write up, and right on the mark IMHO.

Great article. The guy writes well and analyzes the game and our team well.

Here is the one thing I disagree with in his write-up of the last game:

"The crowd noise died in the same second as the game, and DC's lamentable season."

I think that the crowd yelled long after the end of the game. In fact, the chant of "D.C. United" continued well after the final whistle.

    Other than that, great write-up.

I particularly like the tag at the end:

"Read Ian Plenderleith's account of DC United's previous crap season, in 2001, in the new When Saturday Comes anthology Always Next Year 4."

Maybe someone should invite him to our Oct 25 Gab and Gulp (his email is at the end of the article)

Once we figure out where that is, I'd say that's a fine idea.
