History of the AISA doesn't list 'em. If it was some regional indoor thing, maybe. I know someone was trying to start something based out of Dayton several years ago that was going to be a feeder league to the NPSL. I know some attorney was behind it. I can't remember details, though. I didn't think they ever played.
This wasn't a metro league game they promoted as a pro league. It was some kind of regional league that didn't last. I forget who they played but it was another city's team and they called themselves the Chicago Wind.I will try to find the T-shirt and bring it to the next storm game for you Kenn.
So when they folded, the Trib could have used the headline "Wind Broken?" Nah, the Trib's not quite inventive enough for that.
Re: Chicago Wind Fanaddict's recollection is correct, the Wind played one game at the Odeum against a team that called itself the "Wisconsin Pioneers." Who knows who they really were. The Wind was pretty much a local league all-star team put together by Odeum soccer czar Tony Dallas. They completely overmatched their opponents, winning something like 20-3. And as I remember, the Wind was supposed to be an entrant into a new indoor league of some kind that obviously never got off the ground.
i have Salvador "Chava" Valencia's Vultures jersey framed in my office above my desk....he was a great player before breaking his leg badly in an exhibition game vs. Milwaukee in Highland Park. i keep the jersey displayed as a constant reminder of how far we've come. peter
A missing season's attendance From my copy of the MISL Official Guide 1988-89 (this is the only one I actually have from it - I just found the 1988-89 and 1989-90 A.I.S.A. Official Guides). 1987-88 Chicago STING | 28 home dates | 167,344 | Average = 5,977 Ninth out of eleven franchises. [#8 Saint Louis 6,440 average; #10 Minnesota 5,930 average; #11 Los Angeles 5,384 average]
