I know I may be all alone on this but I'm ready for Perez to go.
His BS is embarrassing. I don't care what his production is.
Do respectable top strikers cost too much?
Is that why we've had Ruiz and Perez?
If Blas could get rid of his flops he'd be much better. He's got a killer work rate and great strike rate.

Just part of his game, really. A lot of top strikers do the same shit (see Diego Costa). What I get peeved about is a player like Barrios who had beaten his man last night but decided to go down on minimal contact instead of serving a possible tap in across goal.

Dude is awesome. His yelling "puta" at the linesman on Saturday was the high point of the season for me.

Okay. That's funny. I didn't witness that. He gains some points for entertainment but the officials must hate him.

This is true but Costa is a better antagonist and actor.
The FCD model should be Fabian Castillo. He's like a pitbull in attack mode when he's going forward. He's too busy trying to get to the goal to worry about faking an injury.

Blame the officials. If fouls are called correctly, there's no need for players to flop.

I love Castillo's approach too, but there are times when contact is made and a player needs to decide in a split-second whether or not they can retain balance and have a shot on goal. Most of the time, it's better to go down. Contact was made and, in my mind, I'd rather my player go down most of the time.

In his defense, I've seen Blas flop/embellish a lot, but can't recall a time that I've seen him dive.

I frigging love Perez. He's fighting harder than any other guy out there, every game. I can overlook the occasional flop.

Funny. Let's shift accountability from the MLS officials to the players who are adjusting their tactics (admittedly to the shady side). Omar's got two arms around him and referee is not doing anything - eventually player goes down (dramatically in this case) so the ref is forced to call it. Clean up the officiating, reduce the need for flopping...at that's my $.02

It is not just the flopping - it is the constant berating of the officials. The only thing that drives me more nuts is seeing players on other teams do it and get away with it.

What I find curious is that it clearly effects the team, and not in a positive way. We may not like Texiera's limited positives, but maybe he was in the lineup as much for what he didn't do as what he did...

Diaz looked very comfortable with the team during much of that stretch when Perez was gone for the Gold Cup.....

I'm beginning to think this way too. Is it a coincidence the winning streak is over when he gets back as a starter? Maybe. But I now wonder. Easy for next year though. Come in at a much lower number and off the bench and a spot starter and go out and find the missing piece. Castillo looked really good in the All Star game with a fast and strong center forward.

it should be noted in Steve Hunt's article for Dallas Soccer News he got a quote from Clavijo essentially saying Blas' contract wouldn't be addressed until after the season - he's in his last year, btw - and I'm going to predict now Perez will not be in Dallas next season. This is, after all, the longest stretch he's played for one club in several years.

Blas is a world class striker who is very crafty with his movement and deceptiveness. We would sh!t our pants to have to mark him in a tight game if he was an opponent. We have a ton of fast guys on the roster who don't have the soccer IQ to unsettle a back line the way Blas does. A great striker is annoying, unpredictable, and pesky. Just having fast guys running straight up and down the field is one of those markers that separates professional soccer from amateur soccer.

We wandered in the desert for years until LD's return to MLS landed us a real striker in Carlos Ruiz. After that, we again wandered aimlessly until thank God we acquired Blas. If we go the way of EJ, Brek, Tesho, Texeira, and even Castillo when he plays striker, we will struggle. There sure better be a big time replacement on the way. (Cavani?)

I would like him to stay as a backup but agree with someone like Cavani replacing him. Big time guy who can score 20-25 goals. No scrub replacement. With all the other parts here that might push this team over the edge.

A lot like QBs in the NFL - there are only a few strikers who can win it all for you and beyond that, you can be a contender with a solid one, but you aren't going anywhere without one...overall, there's a scarcity of talent at the position.

I'd put Blas at the upper end of the 'contender' category and really appreciate the work he does to make this team better. Aside from Diaz, he's our best creative player on the team and is able to bring out others' talents. He does have a talent (and fondness) for the 'dark arts', but I think he requires the officials to be on their game which is important when you don't have a 'big-name' superstar like Keane or Demps who can boss the ref around.
