You forgot the part about England being taken over by France in the 1000's I believe and their language being superimposed.

Yeah--I didn't pay attention to that language argument--it has far too many holes to even be taken seriously.

Arena has admitted mistakes? Which? When? Now THAT got my attention! And honestly I'd like to know, as I've never heard Arena admit error.

Not that I'm knocking him too greatly. Milutinovic was a great tactician who could get a great tournament out of a crappy side (just what we needed in '94) but he wasn't a great coach. Sampson? BLECH! For as long as I've been watching the sport, Arena's the best we've had and I can't think of another, particularly an American, who's better suited for the job or has shown he deserves it more.

But damn if I don't disagree with him from time to time. Big time.

how do I know? Well I support Bayer Leverkusen.I´m not
soccer player, but I know some of their soccer player good.
Two of them are my nighboards. So I know the team and their manager good.
Leverkusen is small city. And soccer is big in our city.
My father was a friend of of of the best player in 70´s year (the king
of german soccer, you can guess the name). I told he was
because my father died. This is all what I can tell you. I hope
you understand. This is discussion forum. I really don´t want to
talk to more here. Thanks for understanding.

I want to address for a moment the Vanney issue -- an issue where some of the ignoramuses on here say "Oooh...Oooh...he's calling up Vanney, therefore Bruce is an idiot/plays favorites/is falling into the Agoos trap again!!" (pick one).

We have to start from square one on this. And it's simple.

The USA player pool does not have a full-time club playing left-footed outside defender who is capable of being a consistent international player against all competition..

There you have it. In Bruce Arena's going-on-8-year tenure it's been a succession of stop gap measures. Regis. Frankie. Convey. Now Lewis. For Sven Goran Erickson, it's easy -- he pencils in Ashley Cole.

Bruce Arena doesn't have that luxury. HE has to MANAGE when it comes to that position.

Now Vanney, for all his flaws (and I have criticized him too over the years) IS a full-time left back. He brings some useful things to the table in the context of the demands of the international game. As such, he CAN and SHOULD be used when the situation warrants. And when the situation doesn't -- re: Mexico -- he shouldn't be used. And, gee, guess what? He won't be.

But don't assume, as some so quickly and wrongly do on here, that if he gets called into camp, "Gee there goes that idiot Bruce again...calling him in!!" it's a case of the great horde of Big Soccer posters being smarter than Bruce.

This just in: most of them are not.

I daresay if you sat Bruce down over a glass of wine, and had him hold forth on Greg's virtues and deficiencies, you'd hear a lot more about the latter. But, to paraphrase our Secretary of Defense, sometimes you have kit up with the player pool you have, not the player pool you WISH you had.

Ja Adam, das is der Kaiser:).

Klinsmann ..hm we will see after WC06 if he is our next Kaiser.
I like Klinsmann and his strategy. He is excellent coach even
der Kaiser does not always agree with his strategy.

I love soccer so much, but concerning american soccer I still have
to learn a lot and I like learning about "wonderful soccer made in the USA".
