iTV is way too overpriced for what it does, or rather doesn't do. They need to drop the price by $100 at least.

Now the iPhone, I'm very intrigued.

This iPhone is absolutely incredible. If Apple can get this at a sub-400 dollar price point, lights out for Microsoft Zune.

Re: Apple Keynote Today at 12PM EST: IPod Cell Phone?

My wife does some work with Apple, and she was not allowed to tell me about the new phone, but she promised that I could get one as a late Christmas present. We'll see how expensive it is, but my phone is due to be replaced, and my iPod (1st generation, 10 GB) is almost five years old and definitely needs to be replaced.

edit to add -- oh yeah, my Palm Tungsten T3 is a few years old and getting pretty unreliable, it doesn't register where I tap on it properly, so replacing that with the new Apple phone would be sweet too. Just need a way to migrate all of the contact data to the new unit.

This phone uses Google Maps to act as your GPS. F*cking incredible. That's the best map app out there today.

One thing, last I heard Apple cannot call this the iPhone because they do not own the trademark for it, Cisco does. Otherwise the phone looks pretty bad ass for those who want a phone that does everything except unzip your fly. Me, I'm hoping one tech company gets smart and just makes a really nice phone that is just a phone again.

    What? I can dream, can't I?

    Prices:

    $499 for the 4gb model
    $599 for the 8gb model

As soon as this phone is available for T-Mobile I'm picking up the 4gb.

Cingular is the exclusive partner in the US.... coming out in July, definitely enough time to save up for the 8GB

Well, that's pretty expensive, but given that it is replacing three separate units for me, I think we can swing it.

too bad it's not shipping until June -- at least it will be for Cingular, my wife just got a Blackberry through her company and we are switching from Verizon to Cingular right now.

Re: Apple Keynote Today at 12PM EST: IPod Cell Phone?

Couple more thoughts: touch screen for a phone? Not sure how great an idea that is...actually, it's a great idea, but I'm a bit unsure how the execution is going to play (I've heard a lot of complaints about other PDA systems that use touchscreen technology). Thin phone with large screen and lots of features -- the battery life is going to suck. I wonder how scratch resistant the materials and the screen are or are not.

For now this comes off far more as a great toy and a less than pocket friendly PDA than anything else. That said, I'm sure it will sell like hotcakes.

It's got everything that the new video ipod is/was gonna have...bigger screen, touch-screen technology, bluetooth, WiFi. Sure they'll release an ipod with the same capabilities, but maybe it was the phone that people were talking about all along. The phone looks amazing.

Hadn't heard that. I wonder what Cisco is getting out of this deal? I'm sure they asked for a butt load of cash or rights with Apple technology.

Figure on unlocked versions being available for a 30% markup within 4-6 months, and a wider release to carriers like T-Mobile in 6-9 months if not later.

    Name change:

No longer will they be known as Apple Computer Inc. Just Apple Inc.

Looks like Apple is hoping to get 1% global phone marketshare. That means they'd have to sell 10 million of these.

    That won't be a problem.

Yeah, no updated computers either. I guess they pretty much blew their wad when they announced the Intel machines a year ago, but the tech geek in me likes to go price out the latest hardware.

It seems like a lot of money for only 8 gigs, but I guess it uses flash memory? Still really cool.

Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode -- no word on standby time yet.

Agreed! Incredible device... but the Zune was already dead in the water anyway since its incompatibility with latest OS...

Anyone hear cost of iPhone yet? I see Apple on-line store still out to lunch!
