Steve Finnan set for Liverpool move - article taken from the fulham-rivals site By Toofif Date: 1/3/2003 I have it on good authority that Steve Finnan will move to Liverpool for a fee in the region of £7 million when the transfer re opens in the close season. Fulham signed the midfielder/ converted right back from Notts County in November 1997 for £600,000. The news came out last week that Fulham had bought out the remainder of the sell on clause from Notts County which would have entitled County to a percentage of whatever profit we made on Fins'. However, an agreement was reached so this no longer has to happen. And today I was reliably informed that he will be moving north to Liverpool in the summer. And to be honest, I don't think any Fulham fan can blame him- he is after all, the best right back in the Premiership as voted by his fellow professionals. Fins' has been absolute class for Fulham from day one and has always been linked with a move to the top Clubs. And if and when this deal goes through, I for one wish him all the best. It looks as if we are now becoming a selling Club, but as a supporter, I would have to question the ambition of both Fulham and Al Fayed if he intends to allow the sale of our best players before we are allowed to buy again.
Good move, Liverpool's Right Backs have been an absolute farce since they sold Steven Wright to Sunderland. But then, the title isn't a genuine possibility for Liverpool for another couple of seasons.
Getting Steve Finnan is a good move for any team, but it is the Liverpool left that really needs assistance.
By all accounts, Carraghers best form came as a left back, maybe that's the plan there, and then push Riise to left mid field? Good move for Finnan, great move for Liverpool who so desperately need a full back who can cross the halfway line without getting a nosebleed to create that much used word, width.
