Greetings, Barra Brava... I've been around and amongst you since 1998, at a game here, a game there, often bringing friends and buying tickets in the Barra as a non-member. I have already casually met some of you at various tailgates, in the stands, at the Pour House, and on two road trips (to NY and LA in the 2004 Playoffs.) Perhaps some of you would even recognize me, although I consider it unlikely given the amount most of you had already had to drink when we met. (But just in case we have met, I'm one of the only Indian\Irish guys I've noticed hanging around the edge of the Barra, and I'm always wearing a United jersey ) This year, I've vowed to take the plunge and join outright (assuming I pass the entrance exam !) I just sent an email to Oscar asking how I can join...I'm hoping I can do that at the tailgate to the CD Olimpia home leg, which to my calculations is the first game of the year. I live up in Lancaster, PA, so I won't be coming to all the games. But hopefully I'll get to enough of them to get to know some of you. To me, the Barra have always represented three "D" words that I hold close to my heart: Diversity, Drinking, and D.C. United. It would be a pleasure to join you. --Raj
Bienvenido Raj, look forward to meeting you. You can join the Barra at anytime. Look me up at the CD Olimpia game and I'll introduce you around to the gang. Chico
What Chico said. Look me up too. Look forward to meeting you and sharing a pint of Jack with ya!! All you bastards from B-more and PA and NC are making me look bad. A long deive to me is to Safeway in Springfield.
Well, so long as we're fixing his sig, it goes like this: And when I'm dead and in my grave No fancy tombstone will I have Just lay me down in my native peat With a jug of punch at my head and feet Tora lora loo, tora lora lay Tora lora loo, tora lora lay Lay me down in my native peat With a jug of punch at my head and feet
Oscar has been making ********in season tickets and membership email for about 78 years now, just talked about it today Maybe that email will make him finish it haha. Make sure you're on email list. Also send it to his comcast.net email, not barra-brava.com one. Lookin forward to meeting you.
Welcome. Oh, and its part of our initiation ritual that newbies buy a keg. That's somewhere on the website, isn't it? Anyway, see you in lot 8, amigo.
i'm not sure it was the very first time we met scruggs but early in his barra career he came to a tailgagte at soccerplex and tommy told him that it was our tradition that newbies to the tailgate stand up and sing a barra song. and bob was drunk and did it. it was damn funny.
told ya we shouldn't sleep with the windows open. Welcome to the flock! Bring your girl if you've got one. I think the Barra needs more chicks.
It was also about 40 degrees, windy and pouring down rain, and only about 6 other people were there. Good times!! And it wasn't even a DCU match, which made it really hard core. I think we were all so wasted Scruggs was afraid to say no... Anyway, we have different initiations now like swimming across the Anacostia and back.
Thanks for all the friendly hellos; I'm looking forward to meeting you all. I emailed Oscar at hozkar98@cox.net, but for some reason it bounced back...perhaps because I didn't put "Salma Hayek" in the title...at any rate, I'm not to worry about it since I assume I can take care of business at the first tailgate, as long as I bring an appropriate house-warming gift in a bottle...
Actually, oddly enough, I think I'm already on the mailing list. At least, I get emails from Oscar once every month or so with the title "Barra Brava". I just got one today, although Yahoo couldn't seem to render it properly. I'll pm you my email just in case there's another "members" list that I'm not on. Thanks!
