The latest Women's Soccer Insider from Soccer America is reporting that FFC Frankfurt requested that Steffi Jones stay an extra couple of weeks. She won't be with the Freedom until May 25.

Sandra Minnert won't be in a Freedom uniform until the beginning of June after the German Cup.

Sounds more like a couple of months to me: I thought she was supposed to be arriving shortly.

Who exactly is the loaner and who is the loanee here? I thought we had Jones under contract after May 2002?

Steffi indicated at the RFK event after the Founders Cup that she was obligated to return to Frankfurt ASAP. However, she also indicated she'd be back in time for the regular season. So I really don't quite understand what the deal is.

    Echo!

Isn't that what M9f said? WTF! Who Knows? It's bound to be a very strange year indeed. There's still a bajillion people trying to make the team. And no places to put them. Who knows?

Yeah, I guess its getting down to crunch time for the players. I would assume that the 16 roster players that entered camp will probably stay the same. Beyond that, I think Skate and Meredith will probably remain as the full time reserves, and then after this weekend I would expect Borski and Schott to be named the developmental players, unless of course teams are required to keep a 3rd goalie around.

I think the other try-out players, like Baiku, would be better off going down to Hampton Roads and playing a full season.

Thanks for clearing that up! :D I assume Minnert is the same situation as Jones was last year (ie we get her when Frankfurt is done).

Baidu wouldn't need to go down that far if it comes to that. She could always play for the Northern Va. Majestics like she did last season.

I didn't see anything in there about Steffi's arrival in DC. It's entirely possible that both clubs worked out a deal that would allow Jones to come back earlier than what I originally posted from the SA newsletter.

Crap I didn't even see the photo of Jones on that article. Thanks for the correction SCF.

    So....

Two sources that more or less say that Steffi is arriving in May and one that says she is arriving next week. Which one is true?

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the clarification. (I wasn't doubting you, just pointing out the inconsistency.)

Well according to various web sources, Steffi Jones should be here in the next day or so and suit up for the Freedom. Yay!

Should we expect Minnert to play in the midfield or in the back? I mean, I know she's listed as a defender, but so is Jones.

It'd be awfully nice for her to play in the midfield and bump Mia up top. Not going to get my hopes up though. If she plays in the back, who gets bumped?

At the beginning of the year I would have said Skylar, but I think she's actually been playing better than Emmy lately.

Is Minnert an outside back? How big is she? How fast? Can she play inside? Strengths/weaknesses?

I can't remember ever watching her play.

If Minnert is going to play def, I'd like to see her replace Carrie. She hasn't been as effective as she was late last year. I'm really tired seeing her give the ball up (reminds me of Stoecker her first year in the WUSA)

If she has speed, it could upgrade our speed in the back (in the middle).

She hasn't been given the man-marking assignments this year the way she was last year. That seems to be where she's at her best, but there are fewer teams this year with just one forward to neutralize.
