Its true. Here in Toledo/Northwest Ohio, if you arent an avid soccer fan, or somebody who has familial ties or prior residency in Columbus/central Ohio.....you've never heard of the Crew, and probably not MLS either. A lot of people I meet don't even know professional soccer teams exist in America. They think it's the USMNT/USWNT and youth soccer.
Not particularly, no. Maybe work on parts of Ohio that aren’t Franklin County first before going tri-state.
It would have been nice to know what the other 2 states were at least. Though I agree with that the focus should be more about central Ohio, plenty of room for growth in fans and corporate sponsors within our local footprint.
Or, ya know what? Forget all of Ohio except Franklin County basically and just blanket the area in ads like a politician running for office. I’ve seen more JD Vance commercials in a month than I’ve seen all Crew advertising combined in my entire life.
I've been watching a coach who asks his players a soccer related trivia question to determine who gets the ball first. So, since I'm coaching U15 girls this year, I thought I'd try it out (to encourage the girls to pay attention to such things) and my first one was "Who won the gold in the last Olympics in women's soccer?" No one knew the answer. My assistant said they probably don't follow Women's soccer so last night my question was "Who was first place in CONCACAF Men's World Cup Qualifying?" One girl got it right, but only because she remembered "Canada" was the answer to last practice's question.
It’s almost like teenage girls have better things to do than watch CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers or something.
To be fair, I obsess over American soccer more than the majority of people, and I couldn't answer either question.
I had no idea where to put this random news, but Brett Hiltbrand will be on NBC4 Football Friday Nite this year.
It's more or less an extended sportscast from a bit after 11:15 to approx 11:30 with a commercial break in there somewhere.
The #1 Douchebag Bill Bush chimes in with more crack reporting. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news...then-leave-town-contract-reveals/10227004002/ Here's some snippets: A purchase option in the Columbus Crew's 68-page lease for Lower.com Field grants the Major League Soccer team an option to buy the stadium from the public for 30% of its "fair market value" starting in 2047, as long as that price covers any remaining final bond payments. And any such potential purchase is in no way tied to the team agreeing to remain in Columbus past its 30-year commitment, which expires in 2052. (So when do we tell him that IM posted here that any sale by HSG would still require the team to stay in Columbus? Unless that changed after IM reported.)
Asking about current gold medal holder for Women is akin to asking who won the last world cup (granted I had to think about it a bit to remember) For tryouts, the majority of them wore Mexico NT jerseys (pretty sure they coordinated on that). Doesn't mean they kept up with the standings, but they and their families were definitely following men's WCQ. But, really, point was that YITBOS experience doesn't shock me.
I was referring to a half-hour HS football highlights show on Friday nights. FOX affiliate up here does one called Friday Night Touchdown. TNT NBA sideline reporter Allie LaForce got her start on that show.
What I'm referring to is the Cleveland FOX affiliate (after the 10 PM news) going up against the Big 3 affiliates' 11 PM news with a full half-hour show of nothing but HS football highlights.
Ah. That'd be impossible in Columbus since our Fox affiliate is a subchannel of our ABC affiliate and uses the same studio, newscrew, etc. (There's times our 10pm Fox news will be late due to sports or whatever else and it ends up being delayed while the same news crew is live on ABC.)
I noticed it happened a lot last year when NFL games were on Fox on Thursdays (that won't be an issue this year) and I think during MLB games on whatever night that was.
Yep--but sometimes the cable feed did not recognize that. It would not be on on our tv hooked up to cable but would be on the broadcast version upstairs.
