What I'm finding interesting about these names is that a lot of them seem to be from circa 2005 to circa 2015. (I'll gladly admit I'm pulling those numbers out of thin air.) Obviously the 2008 team is the stuff of legends and the 2009 team was also quite good. The 2002 and 2004 teams were definitely competitive and won trophies too, but...I don't believe *any* of the worst players played in Ohio Stadium which means they're all subjectively worse than the players on the 1996-1998 teams. Take the worst season we had and put that team up against any team from 1996-1998. What were we doing signing guys worse than people like Obi Monome, Ubusuku Abukusumo and Scott Cannon?
Obi's now a neurosurgeon.... But some of that was getting some practice players in the early days. Some Xoggz would also practice with the Crew that first year. Ricci Greenwood was another. As I recall, Chris Duff too (though he never got into a Crew game). And the first time i saw Tony Sanneh was at a Xoggz game.
BWP. Sure they didn't suck before coming to town, but holy hell did they suck here and continued to suck after moving on
https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/ohio-oldest-known-army-veteran-dies-moses-eldridge/ COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio’s oldest surviving World War II Army veteran, Moses Eldridge, died Thursday morning, according to his family. He was 108. Born on April 17, 1917, Eldridge was drafted in 1943 at age 26 and served in the 131st Engineers Regiment as a water purifier during a time when Black and white regiments were kept separate. Integration in the military didn’t happen until five years after he began his service.
Not sure where this should go, but we weren't the first.... At Connie Mack Stadium ca. 1966. Yes, that's Pete Rose on the left.
Hello all you amazing people! 3 days left to donate if you're willing and able! But also here to report that we HIT $10,000!!!!
@Hamburgler03 would probably need to check and it's probably too late to get any required approval from the businesses, but maybe there's a few Sammers willing to donate tonight at Derive or tomorrow at Whistle & Keg.
Sammers was started (in Columbus!) approximately 2012 by some of the OG Sam's Army people. There's no relation to Sam's Army. I think the last sighting of anything Sam's Army was at the US-Mexico 2013 tailgate when it was just Mark Spacone's brother with a tent. Before that, it was merely just some sort of ticket reseller.
Rumor has it that Mark might be coming in for the game. But yeah, Peter's correct, Sammers is kind of a tip of the cap to Sam's Army. Really mostly a bunch of people from around the country who have become good friends throughout the years. General philosophies are: 1) Sing for 90 in the games 2) We have annual elections 3) Totally non profit. Nobody is making a dime on this. Overall we don't want to be the biggest. We want to be the best and #1 above is really what it's about. We love to have fun and some people do drink like fish but at the end of the day, it's about the 90 minutes during the game. Because it's all volunteer work, we <ahem> aren't the most organized group ever created but if you want more info: https://sammerssc.org/
DO NOT DISPARAGE JACOB THOMAS. He sacrificed his jersey for us when it was ripped piece from piece during a play, he ran with such bull-like power that he could not even be pulled down! I remember seeing that jersey for sale at a team sale after that season. REMEMBER THOSE, KIDS? TEAM SALES. HOLY SHIT.
Lets be careful here. It sounds like youre disparaging Sams Army, and I heartily object. They basically invented national team support. They organized for games but never got as in your face, greedy and obnoxious as AO. They never came into town demanding to.run everything and flying in Capos from Seattle and insisting that everyone follow their prescribed song sheets.
Well USL is looking into the land on which Cleveland State's Wolstein Center is on. The MLSNP team continues with its separate effort. The indoor team is going to play in the Wolstein Center this year. https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/l...posal/95-307b6b27-6e99-40a6-bbb7-3e02c0e7dcf9 https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-th...ove-forward-in-cleveland-without-coordination
