I think I might have been at that Yale game, but I was 11 and to be honest the attendance didn't really register. As far as being the biggest crowd ever, there are a couple of other racetracks to consider. I know the Dust Bowl Speedway in New Haven isn't nearly that large. How about Catamount Speedway in Milton? That's gone now, but I don't know how large it was. There's also that dog track in Pownal. Patrick gym seats about 3,200. What about Memorial Aud. in Barre? That must be close to that size as well. And of course, maybe a polo match in Manchester might have topped it...
""...Soldier Field: 65,080 USA vs. Nigeria, 6/24/99 (Women's World Cup)""" And people say people arent into soccer in your country? No other country in the world would get 65.000 people to come and see a women`s soccer game.
The US games averaged 69,081 in the 1999 Women's World Cup. The other games averaged 22,425. In the 2003 Women's World Cup, put together on short notice and using some smaller venues, the USA average was 29,498 and the other games averaged 15,019 (the tournament as a whole averaged 20,459).

They finished 0-17 this year, lol. I just checked, and their crowds are in the low hundreds. Women's too. I don't want to put anything on the list unless it's at least 1,000. Ok, Minnesota should be 52,000 based on that article. My mistake. Wasnt the Mexico-US match held at Relaint Stadum (Houston) in 2003 the largest crowd for a soccer match in Texas? I remember being at the stadum and an anouncement was made about thatgame having the most attendance.
A clarification on the Illinois record. The other match was Sweden/Ghana, not Brazil/Italy. In the USA match, Nigeria scored first, and the USA came roaring back. It was a surreal experience, as one has to imagine a "crowd roar" dominated by female voices, and those mostly ranging from 9-16. Second surreal note: Line for beer at a sold-out Soldier Field...non-existent. Line for ice cream - 30 minutes, minimum. I, reluctantly, foreswore the ice cream on that occasion. All in all, great atmosphere. Wonderful memory.
Side note for Texas records, women's soccer. I saw UNC play the Lady Longhorns in a regular season match in fall, 2000, at Austin. They announced that the attendance set a new state record, set the previous year for an NCAA tourney match between Texas and Texas A&M. I recall the figure as somewhere north of 5,500. As with the USA/Nigeria game, Texas scored first and early, but the lady Tarheels were altogether too much for a feisty Texas team. Mia Hamm made an unannounced half-time appearance.
I stand corrected. The US/Nigeria game was indeed followed by Italy/Brazil (looks like I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue). I had mixed up the Norway/Japan and Ghana/Sweden doubleheader from the following weekend. Humble apologies.
