Boca to left back. Should be interesting.

Boca @ LB per Ives. Although I would have liked Dempsey or Adu up top, I like that he is going to do the Boca at LB experiment.

    per soccerbyives:

PRE-GAME- Here is the USA lineup:

    --------------Altidore--------Davies--------------
    Donovan--------------------------------Dempsey
    -----------------Bradley------Clark----------------
    Bocanegra----Onyewu-----DeMerit----Spector
    -------------------------Howard-------------------

Boca is playing LB? Robo must have changed his programming.

Bornstein has looked shaky imo, and in a match where we will be mainly defending Boca's weakness going forward is less of an issue. Under the circumstances I like the Boca for Bornstein move.

The Boca/LB crew apparently get their wish. MB looks to be saddled with additional defensive duties, but we'll see.

    LD still captain :O

Could have written that line-up two days ago. Let's get this done boys. It's 2:45 am here in Japan right now and like a glutton for punishment I am staying up for this one!

I guess that's Boca on the left.

imo, it would be great to see a 3-5-2 with Spector and Clark playing behind Bradley who is pushed up the field.

But I suppose a 4-4-2 is the best and most-comfortable formation for this team.

Second game in a row where I'm in support of the starting lineup.

Again, some reservations with Clark, particularly as we went with a more defensive shape (Bocanegra at left back.)

No complaints, though - go US!

That lineup has a strong left side. Let's see what Spain brings out on their right.

I like the lineup, though I would like to see Landon keep the armband after his play the last three games.

I sure would welcome a RoboBob 'short circuit' and some playing time for Adu and Torres! :D And please ... let's not take another sub home in our back pocket ...

Can't imagine Jozy will be able to go the full 90...would love to see Freddy or Benny come in for him after 60 minutes and move Dempsey up top. Let's hope we are at least within one goal at that point.

This is a game to win not to experiment!

Putting proven players from the bench into a game is NOT experimenting. Last game Adu played, he played very well. Same for Torres. They belong and deserve time on the field.

Particularly Adu, he brings creativity to the table and can create chances out of nothing. We may just need that in the second half...

i'll be interested to see how physical rico plays. i'm predicting someone on the US to get red carded. he's got to be my no. 1 choice for that.

Not a Bob supporter, but I'll give him credit for this one. Boca should make our backline better (remember we were raided up our left by Brazil). Bornstein wasn't offering much going forward anyways. Also, we get a very good aerial threat in the lineup.

And leaving Davies in as well is nice to see. I thought he might go for the Italy lineup. But I think this is better for us.

With Larrionda reffing again, I wonder how many people would go over/under if I set the USA red cards for this match at 1.5?

I have no problems with this lineup. I think it's the best we have. You can argue about Bocanegra at LB, but why not give it a shot. Maybe it works. The other questionable spot would be DM/CM, but I'm all for having Clark starting against Spain.

Starting XI is solid. The team is going to need more out of its attackers though.
