after the Turkey game Vanney should not start and you can't start both Donovan and Beasley. At least one of them will need to be rested for Cameroon. Klein Twellman and Mathis are good options.

I think you have to use four defenders against Brazil. Mastroeni should stay back and be the 5th. Bocanegra was a left back before he was moved to central defense. Gibbs the opposite. Bocanegra should be at left central and Gibbs at right central. They can try Hejduk at righ mid and Beasley at left with Convey in the middle and Donovan and Mathis up front.

Howard Hejduk Gibbs Boca Vanney Mastroeni Convey Beasley Donavon Mathis Stuart I thought there was nothing wrong with Vanney and Hejduk. The U.S. have to practice their offside trap. Either that or their central defense looks very slow. I did not like the way Califf played. It looked like he fouled the player from behind and not Hejduk. The second goal that Turkey scored was a disaster. It was also on Califfs side. Maybe the defense should stay back more.
That's like being the best sexually transmitted disease. I'll probably get slammed for saying this, and am likely wrong, but what the hell... ...I think our best left back might very well have played at the Home Depot Center yesterday. After watching how slow Vanney looked today, and thinking that foot speed _might_ be the only chink I've seen in Todd Dunivant's armor, I'm ready to see how he does at the next level. There certainly doesn't appear to be a lot of risk in having a look.
No tomorrow Cameroon does matter if they don't beat Brazil. Brazil is a must win so Bruce will use all his guns. Since they played so poorly against Turkey move one will be to start all the bench players and fill in from there. BTW, in Bruce's own words 5-6 players were terrible w/o giving names.

Looking at the group the US needs Turkey either to win or not to get thrashed by Brazil, so if the US wins against Cameroon and draws Brazil they are in on goal difference or more goals scored. The US MUST play defensively against Brazil. Not to be bunkered in, but just to check the Brazilian attack. 5-3-2 D: Cherundolo, Bocanegra, Mastroeni, Gibbs, Vanney M: Klein, Twellman, Lewis F: Donovan, Beasley I've got Mastroeni and Twellman falling back, but necessary to get a clear line of passing to DMB and LD. I don't know if Mathis should start, but if he does, Beasley falls back replacing Klein, putting Mathis up front with Donovan.
I agree. And I disagree with a lot of people's line-ups that have the same players that played on Wednesday in this match. The match is on friday - only maybe 48 hours later. Arena will mix it up. THat is the only real way to play in these tournaments to minimize risk of fatigue and injury. When you look at it like this, it is quite challenging for the manager. But it makes perfect sense that Bocanegra and Maestroni (in general better defenders) would be available - it shows that the US values this match a bit more than the Turkey one. But for some reason I think Turkey really surprised the US and were underestimated. Well, maybe I am not so surprised. I disagree with this. The US is in a must win if they are to have more control of their own destiny. A draw will aid the cause. Those are the results that they need. IMO, the US will play a counter attacking game (shame they did not include Josh Wolff) as Brazil will be heavily offensive minded. Brazil does feel this is a must win, and will play accordingly. If the US can get Brazil on their heels and catch them napping or pushing the wing backs too far up, they stand a chance to pull out a positive result. Parreira is now going to experiment and get creative with the midfield. I would have hoped for Ronaldinho to start - but doubt that he will come on unless Brazil's midfield is un-organized. I have a feeling that Alex will do well though - Maestroni will have to mark him to stop his link-up with the forwards. If he gets free, the way he is playing, he will raise hell for the US defense regardless of who is there. The thing is -the same Cameroon squad that gave Brazil second half fits will be in tune for the match versus the US. You don't want to face that looking for a must win and you want to have some leverage with your points. That's why the strategy for the result may be different. I see what Arena is doing - he didn't have too many good options with the design of this tournament.

If Landon, Convey, and DMB all start they would all have to be subbed out due to the short layover (I think), so probably only two out there to begin. Subs: Klein for Landon (slide Stewart centrally) Lewis for DMB Cunningham for forward (or maybe Martino/Convey and slide Mathis back) Roll the dice, go for goals.
Howard -- the best goalie here. Cherundolo -- his superior crossing will help and his physical weakness won't be as big of an issue. Califf -- better than Berhalter yesterday. Bocanegra -- Fast, Big and skilled. Vanney -- best option really. Beasley -- Lewis was tired. Sub Lewis in in the second half if the situation allows. Mastroeni -- his turn. Stewart -- he still helps (use Klein in the second half) Martino -- Blood him. Donovan -- still our best player, use him as long as he is effective. Mathis -- he can score.

Aslo, Beas is our most resiliant player, the one most able to bounce back on short notice. Donovan is the one who needs the rest -- bu his own admission -- both physically and mentally. Have him availble as a sub, but try to get him some rest in before meeting an explosive Cameroon side.

Bring on Twellman for Donovan. Bring on Beasley for Stewart if we need offense late. Or bring on Armas if we are protecting a result. I would give Martino his minutes against Cameroon. With out a result here the cameroon game is pointless.
