I think it is time to have this done the right way, I'm sick and tired to see elementary mistakes, and then we demand to be respected ?

    Home - Away

    Sat 4/5 6:30am ET EPL – Man U. v Liverpool
    Sat 4/5 8:30am ET GER - Bayern v Hannover

This is how BigSoccer is listing the upcoming games on FSW ,

There is a mistake in this, can you see it ?

Why can't we get used to list this the right way, I see this happen a lot, even within our soccer community.

SoccerTV lists it as Hannover v. Bayern Munich -- so I guess you're saying that they listed the wrong home team in that match, correct?

I just had a movement about 15 minutes ago. Usually 3 per day.

    yes, correct

And it's not an isolated case, it very much so has to do with MLS and in general with any soccer game that is not listed properly . maybe in other sports it makes no difference who plays home, maybe there isn't that much of an advantage. But as we should know by now, in this sport SOCCER home field advantage means a lot.

I didn't know where else to post this and get some people behind this. I have it posted at the Fox Sports World thread as well, but no one realy reads that.

Its a fair enough point you've raised, but bear in mind you will confuse many Americans.

Let me guess another pet peeve: W-L-T.

then let's eliminate the ties and have some kind of shootout or something if a games ends level after 90 minutes or so...

Maybe I should start "the OFFICIAL I don't care which team is listed first in game listings" thread.

This home-team-last listing is an American thing that most likely came from baseball, where the home team bats second, so in a listing "Boston AT Detroit" the Red Sox would be listed first always, since they bat first.

I actually thought the "mistake" was that it didn't list which Bayern is playing: Munich or Leverkusen (or maybe the mistake was that it should it be "Bayer" with no "n").

There is no such thing as the "right" order. Get over it. In the United States the home team is "customarily" listed second. On British and Mexican broadcasts, I've observed that the home team is predominantly listed first.
"v." means "versus" and does not imply one team or the other is the home teams. Whereas "@" would have. There is nothing wrong here.

Especially since, at best, most of us would be just watching the games on TV, so we would be the ones "at home," making the location of the game irrelevant.

Am I the only one who feels movements when I walk into bookstores or libraries? I mean, it's like I just had a glass of metamucil or something.

And like the Ten Team is Not Enough thread, this has been another three minutes of my life I'll never get back. Dammit--I responded to this one, too!

why does one have to spend time , investigate who plays where, when it would be a simple thing to list home team first always, get used to it

Andy your a smart guy, now don't tell me its just the same thing to you when reading the scoreboard and the winning team is listed first no matter if the played at home or away. Pick up any newspaper and check it out. Like I said i think your a smart guy, please don't make stupid statements. Not every game is on TV, what if you don't get to watch the game but look it up on the net or in the back pages of the paper.

Is it that hard to list it Home - Away ?

If anything, I live in the US of A, I would expect one of two orders from an American news source.

    1) Away - Home
    or
    2) Winner - Loser

And standings, from American news sources, should be W-L-T-OTL*
    * - where applicable :p

    1) would be ok as long as it is consistent

    2) would be correct only if it indicates where the game was played
    Winner - Looser at Location
    Galaxy 2 - 1 Crew at Columbus

    or simply Crew 1 - 2 Galaxy

just because your used to it and done this way in US of A doesn't make it right, remember we are still growing and learning about the sport, we should be humble and learn from those who been doing this for a hundred years, not arrogant as many claim we are.

It has nothing to do with arrogance at all, it's how we list things. In alot of European countries, they seperate numbers with a '.' instead of a ',' , so when we have attendances should we list them as 25.000 for 25 thousand?

Or perhaps since most of the rest of the world has the date format of day/month/year instead of the US way of monty/day/year, we should say the game today is 5/4/03 instead of 4/5/03?

Perhaps we should spell things like colour, or centre, or favourite as well since that's the way you'd see things in a right up for the EPL or something similar?
