Fire Jersey's I just saw that LA has a star on there jersey for winning MLS CUP last year. DC has three for there 3 championship,as does Kansas City not sure about San Jose. With that being said do you think that Puma should put a star on are jersey's for the 1998 championship.
I think Puma should put four red stars on their jerseys... and then add two blue stripes ... and we will have our Chicago flag kit. (I'll explain the other three stars three years from now).
I don't think they should be putting stars on ANY of them. It's only a league cup, save the stars for bigger competitions. Besides, in twenty years that Fire jersey would be pretty cluttered! HAHA ..but seriuosly, it's a bit short sighted.
I don't know how I feel about that. There's nothing like it in any other sport that I'm aware of. What about US Open Cups? Thinking about it they probably shouldn't do it. Lose the stars.
We had this discussion once before and the general consensus was that it looked dumb and was a bad idea. I'm with Flynn. 4 stars, one for ft. dearborn, the great fire, and two worlds fairs (including the columbian exposition of 1893. it got pushed back from 1892 because it was supposed to be in rememberance of columbus discovering america, but their plans were so huge it got knocked ot 93.) and two blue stripes.
Fun Facts: the Columbian Exposition of 1893 took place in Hyde Park. Most of the buildings were built with cheap plaster over thin wire frames, but the one building that was properly constructed (and still remains) is now the home of the Museum of Science and Industry. The other buildings were bulldozed and pushed out into the lake forming Promontory Point near 55th street. Also, for the exposition, they dug a canal along 60th street in order to give gondola rides from the MSI to nearby Garfield park. The indentation from the gondola canals remains today, but it is now public park land referred to as "the midway." It was near this midway location that the original Chicago professsional football team earned the nickname "the monsters of the midway." Also near the midway, Jay Berwanger, a U of C student won the first heisman trophy and immortalized the famous heisman pose. In conclusion: Chicago Flag kits would be a great way to express the unity that we feel through the shared sense of a common history. Think about it, if this much could be said about just one of the stars on the Chicago flag, imagine how much historical significance a full jersey would carry. coming soon: trivia regarding Ft. Dearborn, the great Fire, and the other exposition.
Couldn't agree more. If MLS wants to imitate other leagues jersey habits, some history incorporated into the designs or logos would be a lot more meaningful then some stupid stars for cup victories.
Settle down, Beavis! I think there should be like... naked chicks and stuff on our jersey. And beer. That would rule!
Look at the progression of stickers on the helmets of Ohio State Buckeyes football players during the season.
The zardmeister is a pedophile Those stars are given for individual acts of brillance on the american football field. It doesn't promote a very good team sense though, because some players earn more stars than others and by the end off the season it becomes very apparent which players are seen as more important and which are less important to the coaching staff and to the team. Yes, our team does have players with varying skill levels, but it would be better if those differences remained unannounced by the amount of stars on jerseys. Everyone who puts on a Fire jersey should receive equal support... unless it is Jim Curtin... in which case he should receive more support than the rest. In terms of stars that represent championships, we don't need them. In 20 years the abundant stars on our jerseys would make us look like the zardmeister or some other D&D-inspired, Harry-Potter-loving, wizard look alike.
Oh, I'm not for or against the whole Buckeye sticker thing...I was merely saying that it is done in other sports, if only on an individual basis.
Yeah, I didn't think you had suggested the Buckeye model for us... I guess I just wanted to go off for a second about team unity.
What I would like to see MLS do is have the defending champion wear a championship patch on their sleeve. (for example, LA would wear it this season, and this years MLS cup winner would wear next season and so on).
From the Fire Website: "The six points in the middle of the logo are representative of the four six-pointed stars in the "City of Chicago" flag. The four stars in the city's flag represent four monumental events in the history of our great city..." They already have the star thing covered- it's just in disguise. There was one other permanent building in Chicago built for the 1893 World's Fair- The Art Institute- the only building built outside of the Hyde Park area. And speaking of the Art Institute-You won't see Beavis and Butthead in there. "Look at all the naked chicks- cool! huh-huh-huh"
Re: The zardmeister is a pedophile thats why you make one star equal 5 and then 10 and then 20. but why stars? stars are so tired. i say use pot leaves.
Gandalf the Grey knows.... legalize it! oh, how the the halfling's pipe-weed has dulled your senses. keep it secret. keep it safe.
