I missed the earlier half of this season as I canceled my cable shortly after the World Cup.

Now I have cable again and the season picks back up this week on Friday.

What I wonder, having seen the last cliffhanger episode, is has the series had a significant drop off with the move to Sci-Fi?

I really enjoy the show whenever I catch it and I decided to look at it a little more in-depth online and found that besides the ones last Friday with the cliffhanger all the episodes I've seen were from before the move to Sci-Fi. Frankly I was dissapointed by the cliffhanger episode although the other two were better.

    Anyone else here watch this?

I've watched some of Stargate SG-1, but it kind of ruined Stargate for me. I loved that movie and as soon as they cast McGuyver into this series it kind of killed it for me. You can't replace Val Kilmer with Richard Dean Anderson.

    Val Kilmer???

It was Kurt Russell in the movie. And James Spader was his co-star.

I think they took a great idea and made it into what it should have been in the first place.

The movie is fun but can hardly go into the entire Egyptian Mythology theme that it began to touch.

As for McGyver, I think he does a good job in his role in Stargate.

I love the series, but I can only watch the syndicated shows as I do not have cable, so I am a season or two behind what you are seeing.

The series is a lot better than the movie. I like Richard Dean Anderson's humor. Actually, if you watch the first SG-1 episode, you see that they did a good job of matching the personalities from the movie. It was slowly changed to the current team over the next half season.

Yeah, I meant Kurt, but I was watching that awful Digital Camera commercial with Val Kilmer in it, and for some reason I was distracted and typed his name instead of Russell.

Interesting reading this thread. I just watched episode 200, and I thought it was awesome. I liked the movie, but never really watched the show (didn't have Showtime, so missed the first half of the run straight off) until Ben Browder joined the cast in season 9.

This show is almost to the level of Farscape, IMO. It's become one of my favorite shows on TV.

Not surprisingly, I think one of my favorite parts of "200" was the Farscape spoof.

I've just started watching Stargate Atlantis a few weeks ago - after the most recent crossover episode, when the SG-1 crew went to Atlantis.

I started watching SG-1 when it was on Showtime then stopped somewhere around season 3, just picked it up again on season 9 when Brower joined the cast. Last night's episode was great, I love how they did it...

a little side note... damn, something about Claudia Black just gets me going... mmmmm

I was very happy when she joined the cast as a regular. It is possible for her to play "not-sexy"?

I just now fired up last night's Atlantis episode, and Richard Dean Anderson made a guest appearance again. He's funny.

I've been watching the show since the beginning and lovin' it almost the whole time. There were some times the show lulled a bit, but the last couple seasons have been great. I recorded the 200th episode and watched it last night and laughed through most of it. There were dozens of inside jokes fans of Stargate and sci-fi in general would get, but others might not (which is what made the episode so great). The Farscape bit was absolutely classic.

Stargate Atlantis has been pretty solid over the last two seasons, although they do have some off episodes here and there.

The Farscape bit was good, but I liked the Thunderbirds / Team America part with the puppets the best.

I thought the "Making of Episode 200" show was better than "200" was.

The 100th episode was hysterical. The 200th was pretty bad, though I did like the whole Farscape joke.

I'm a big fan of SG-1, but I missed a year or two somewhere after the move to Sci-Fi so sometimes I get a bit lost. The 6 o'clock daily-ish shows are good to catch up.
All the story-lines are impossible, and no group in the AF would ever act like they do half the time, but it's good entertainment and it is very neat how they tie in mythology, makes you think a bit.
I love the self-humor they throw in - like one episode Samantha is humming in an elevator and she's humming the show's theme song. I recently caught what may have been the first show of the series with Richard Dean Anderson when Carter first went on a mission and they went to see Daniel - they were talking about the way they had to recreate all the stuff in the lab instead of having the power crystals or something and she said "we had to really get creative and McGyver ours to get it to work" - or something close to that. I cracked up.
I don't think of him as McGyver though, I still see him as Jeff Webber ;)
I still have 200, and the making thereof, on TiVo.

I thought the 200th was lame. Last season to me was horrible, but I've been giving it a chance this season. It's been pretty good up until this episode. Hopefully they get back on track next week.

Yowza. From the star of SciFi's universe to this in just a couple years. Obviously BSG is the big boy on the block right now, but I thought SG1 was still the second biggest with regards to ratings.

Of course any 10 year old series carries heavy baggage of cast member salaries.

If they do find another outlet to continue the series, I really can't see any SG1/Atlantis crossovers.

To be honest, even with the struggle to transition from the Goauld to the Ori as the bad guys, I've still found SG1 to be much more watchable than Atlantis.

I figured Atlantis would get the axe before SG1 did.

SciFi drives me almost as nuts as FOX. They going to bring back "Scare Tactics"?

Sci Fi confirmed it today, and also confirmed SG: Atlantis has been picked up for a 4th season. Just as I was getting back into it... oh well.

At least Eureka is pretty good and The Dresden Files looks like it'll be pretty good too.

It's gotta be the salaries, because SG-1 is only a 10th of a point behind Atlantis in the ratings. This sucks.

It seems like it would have been more logical to hold back the new SG1 and Atlantis episodes until the BSG season 3 episodes were ready. I think that the shows would be stronger ratings-wise as a three hour sci-fi geekfest of new shows than a mixture of new shows and reruns. I would have either had sci-fi friday consist of all reruns throughout the summer or change the programming to a mixture of Firefly/Dark Angel/Eureka/Dr. Who for the summer. They could even try to get the rights to Buffy/Angel reruns or something. Then I would begin hyping the new SG1/Atlantis/BSG episodes to build up fan interest. I just think that the numbers may be down because of poor marketing and placement.

From the couple press releases I've come across today, it appears that the series was not renewed for season 11. MGM has backed the franchise and is looking for an alternative station. There was a rumor that a third spinoff of the show was in the works, what this means for SG-1 and Atlantis is up for speculation. There is a film in the works with a potential sequel, but it will be based on the first film, not the series (who knows if the series will get a film eventually).

Can't believe that SG-1 was not renewed for season 11. However, the ratings for both SG-1 and Atlantis have been below par recently.

The executive producer of SG-1 stated at www.gateworld.net this morning that "we want to emphasize is that the franchise is not dying. SG-1 will go on in some way. We're just not ready to announce how."

Of course, that might mean that "SG-1 will go on" in reruns.

As for "200," I loved it. A few of the skits fell a bit flat for me, but the Farscape and Team America skits were funny. I especially enjoyed Amanda Tapping as Chiana.

That was funny, but my favorite was Browder as Stark. They took advantage of a lot of obvious jokes (Browder suggesting just replacing the main character with a new character and carrying on), but many of them were still funny. I rather enjoy it when shows poke fun at themselves.

I thought that little bit made the joke.
