In today's KC Star, I think it was an article writen by Loder, there is an "in-brief" about the 4 playoff series.

    "San Jose 3 KC 2"

Mods add link and delete this sentence if you can, thanks.

    1) Anyone realy think this game will feature 5 goals? There have only been 5 goals in the entire series this year.

    2) For KC to get 2, the likely scoreline is 2-0. Outside shot at 2-1.

At least he had the guts to pick against a home team. That doesn't happen very often in the Star for any sport.

    It was Grathoff, not Luder.

No way there will be five goals in one game between these two. There probably won't even be five goals between the two games.

I would like to see that 2-0 score line for KC out there. That would be payback from last year.

I would also like to see the refs crack down on all the California whining and diving the Quakes like to do. It would be nice to see Donovan play with the same attitude as he does with the Nats. There's no diving and no mouthing off to the refs. But I don't think he will score a brace like he did against Panama. Garcia and Conrad will tie him up.

Grathoff picked a lot of goals for all the playoff games. He must be nuts. Or he's thinking it will be like the baseball playoffs with big scores and extra time. No, he's just nuts.

Good thing you can check your "MSL Standings" right below it. I know it's just a typo but come on. There's a Gansler article up on www.kcwizards.com.
"One goal's held up for us in many games, but we had an opportunity to get a couple (against L.A.)," said Wolff. "I think, for me, I didn't put the final pass in the right weight and the right spot sometimes. We've got to get better at that."

I try to defend Wolff's lack of scoring at times, but this just makes me think he's not looking to score first at all anymore. I know he's had to take on the playmaker role, but I think he needs to at least act like he's a threat to put them in himself.

speaking of luder, i sent him a quick email about his article on bo yesterday. i got his response back today. no big deal, but he included some quasi-personal stuff to go along with his 'thanks.' i've sent writers many letters, and it's nice for one to give the impression of being very personable. sorry to stray off topic for a moment.

Uh...I think he meant the series aggregate totals.

And by the way, looking to the KC Star for a reliable prediction is like looking to Ruiz for fair play advice.

It's like asking Steve Sampson how it feels to win!

Sorry if I'm interrupting your routine :) , but Sampson's squad looked awful tonight. They were outhustled all evening. If LA goes out of the playoffs early, I think change should be in order. I'm not normally so quick trigger with coaches, but he really sunk not only their results, but their style. Their fans will want change.

Thats odd, I thought he was brought in to do the exact opposite. This has to go down as one of the biggest bonehead coaching moves of MLS history.

How does everyone feel about the Stars coverage of the Wiz this year. It seems that they have had at least 2 guys writing an article every week. Plus they've had the keys to the game rundown before the matches.
Now if they can keep Flannigan from writing about soccer, I think all is well.

I have the same gripe I've had every year since '96. The Royals suck, they get the front page. The Chiefs suck, THEY get the front page. But the Wizards, who have been in first place for a majority of the season...are lucky to even get a mention, and when they do, it's on the fourth or fifth page. Hell, soccer is usually AFTER high school sports in the Star.

    I don't think that's really a fair assesment.

The Wiz get a front page story (with a jump to another page, which also has a full game preview, etc.) on gameday... and then a front page story the day after game day.

And then they'll often catch another front page story or two at least once a week.

I think the Star's coverage has gotten exponentially better over the last few years.'

Front page story??? Sure there is if you consider a half of a paragraph and a little bitty picture. In order to read the rest of the article you have to go to the back page under the weather map to read anything else. Did I mention that Boyce and Luder have no soccer knowlegde what so ever. There is something always wrong in there articles that it gets old reading them.

The last 2 nights KMBC has had a story about the Wiz. Last night they had a short interview with Gansler and then one with Wolf. On Friday, 38 the Spot had Kerry on for about 4 or 5 minutes. Things are looking up.
