Has Stanford hired a coach? Does anyone know who the candidates are?

    candidates for the stanford job

both assistants are getting interviews. There are 5 - 6 people getting interviewed, or so it is rumoured. Names such as April Heinricks and Jill Ellis are being quoted also.

The assistants interviews are token. Too many good applicants and they are too young. I think there tactical limitations shown through as the season wore on. What ya think, cachundo?!

You hit the nail on the head runbabyrun. Obviously Braveheart hasn't seen Stanford play this season. The kids were winning despite Erickson's ineptitude. Unfortunately, my litany were lost on the last BS fart. But various parents' complaints are still fresh in my memory.

Braveheart's rumor about coaching candidates sucks ass. First of all, you may have heard Ape has this tournament in China later this year.

Second reason why Braveheart's rumor sucks donkey's balls. Stanford NEVER poaches a conference rival's head coach, in any sport. Promoting an assistant from another conference rival to head coach - yes. But NEVER a head coach. That doesn't mean it won't happen. But so far, it never has.

I would have believed Louis Van Gaal as a candidate, but Ape or Jillian? If pigs can fly, Braveheart will surely make them.

The AD wants to find the ideal candidate, at the latest - late February. That candidate is said to be an Ivy. My speculation is that it's either Princeton's Julie Shackford or Penn's Darren Ambrose.

    Ignorance

    Cachundo-
What are you talking about? I have been reading your postings all season and think you may have never played a day of soccer in your life. I have seen Stanford play many of times in the past 3 seasons, so I am very aware of the level of play that is expected. I cannot believe you have been bashing Erickson and Sapsford all season. You should be commending them on the job they have done considering the circumstances. No team goes 22-1 and with an ineptitude coach, trust me I know. Without Erickson and Sapsford this team would not have stayed together and succeeded like it did. Secondly, Braveheart will be making pigs fly...count on it. As far as the assistants getting "mercy" interviews those would have been conducted and concluded already and they would not be among the finalists if they were not worthy candidates. I look forward to another ridiculous comment from you in the future. Later.

The two red flags to me were the fact that they named CO-head coaches as opposed to either one of them. The fact that Paul had just joined the Stanford staff and was named co-head coach does not signify a vote of confidence from the admin that Erickson could handle it alone. Also, the coaches made a statement by hiring tactical guru Jape Shattuck in mid-season. That sent a huge message that they needed help. If that was not the case, why in the world would you have brought him on board.

Stanford was loaded with talent. They should have been in the final four. Most people could have held that team together. Give Andy Nelson credit for putting it all together. Not sure if you are aware but Andy coached them this summer in Europe. They headed into the Santa Clara game in midseason form curteosy of the foreign trip.

    Time will tell...

Is that you with a new sockpuppet EC?

I'm not sure which games you've watched, but if you watched as much as I did the past season, you would have probably noticed the coaches' tactical limitations.

Andy only had one chance in 4 years to take the squad to Europe, & he did that with this squad because he thought he had a championship team with the '03 & '04 classes. The squad was loaded with talent even an idiot like me could have taken them to the Final Four. Erickson along with the rest were given a season-long audition.

As runbabyrun indicated, the new GK coach was named co-head coach along with Erickson. Then Shattuck showed up. The way I see it, Atheltics' actions were not exactly a ringing endorsement of Erickson's abilities. And that's why I would be very surprised to see her get the nod.

    surprise

I wouldn't be surprised to see Anson Dorrance seriously courted (and it wouldn't be shocking to see him go). Just recently he gave an interview where he said Stanford was the only job he'd consider leaving UNC for.

I don't think anyone can really hire Anson right now because of the pending lawsuit. It would be too risky and too high profile. Also, it would seem risky for Anson to leave the university whose lawyers are defending him.

The only people who think that lawsuit is going anywhere are female Kellers (mom and daughter) and some Santa Clara fans. And the Kellers are going to go away for nuisance $$ from either UNC or an insurance company (remember, they have nothing to lose by plodding on, nor does the sucker who took the case on contingency). The Santa Clara fans won't get $$, but they're harder to get rid of (and they're used to sticking with something in spite of consistent failure;).

I am not judging his guilt or innocence. Just saying that another university would have a hard time taking him on as a hire while this is going on. That is all I meant. No doubt Stanford will hire before the suit will come to fruition.

Considering that Sapford worked for him, I would say that his job is safe.
