I took the picture. Those bleachers have been sitting there all winter. Nothing has been started yet.
Oh wow - I thought it was still an empty lot sitting as Cal Expo had it. No idea they had actual pieces of the structure already there and ready to go. That's encouraging I guess. Thanks for the site visit!
Zero work has been started. No site clearing, or anything. Most of what you see will come down. The light poles are part of the parking lot, and where the pitch will be. Those steel beams are remnants of the old ampitheatre. The portable bleachers in the background belong to Cal Expo, and get moved all over the place for events and trade shows. They are actually on the other side of the service road. sometimes there's none there, sometimes a bunch. depends on what event Cal Expo is hosting.
Even if SRFC don't make the jump to MLS, its nice to see a lower division team building a SSS of their own
The site has excavation flags all over, and a large back hoe is on site, but no physical work has started yet.
From the Sac Republic twitter feed. Construction has begun!! Sneak peak of what it looks like at @calexpo. Countdown begins! #fullpitch pic.twitter.com/81tRgehzOU— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) March 18, 2014
From their Facebook page: Get your hard hat. We have broken ground! Work has started on Cal Expo site. Tentative first match will be June 7. First 3 games to be held at Hughes Stadium. More details to follow.
That link is a great find. Thanks. Unfortunately, it also shows me that rain has stalled work for the last three days.
Looks like the equipment has been standing still for over a week now. Last action on the archived webcam was on Tuesday, March 25. We definitely need the rain, but looks like literally nothing has happened at the site for 10 days now. How much can things get delayed before they have to extend the number of games at Hughes?
They're out there. Working in the upper left corner. Mainly out of camera view. Also measuring and marking
Progress being made. Grading the site today. It looks pretty nice framed by the monorail and the green trees:
They dug a trench straight across midfield today. Anyone know what that's for? Utilitiy lines? Drainage? Irrigation?
They've dug a trench all the way around, too. I think it's for all three. They had some electrical started in the far corner. Big stack of water pipe on site, too
Are they still targeting the 6/7 game vs. Phoenix as the new stadium opening? I'm not a construction guy so not sure what all needs to be done - any better thoughts from those in the know?
