It was nothing It’s been long enough since #SaveTheCrew that I forgot about the uproar that follows a “big day today” tweet. Just excited about our Nordecke leadership meeting tonight. It’s a future-focused itinerary, and that’s always a meaningful conversation to have.😘😘😘— Morgan Hughes (@Morgan_Hughes) September 12, 2019
I imagine that it’s nice for a fella like @YeahMorgan to forget something from the STC saga and just be a fan. I found his tweets, especially the Big day ones to be just what I needed on so many of those dark days where it seemed my little yellow soccer team was going to move on from Black & Gold Blvd.
Columbus City Council creates entity that would own new Crew stadium Not much new news. The land transfer still hasn't happened, so the petition approved by city council that creates this entity has wording about what happens if the club isn't able to acquire the land. Still, as the article says: So the transfer hasn't gone through, but the team "owns or controls" the property. Um, okay. Personally, I dislike the wording of the lead paragraph: the status of the deal is "unclear" and it implies that, since "nine months" have gone by since the project was made public, well, maybe there's reason for concern. Or something. I don't feel concerned in the least. But the process certainly is confusing and tedious. Git-r-done.
I suspect we might see something on October 10 10.10.2019 pic.twitter.com/gJxLBSWcEY— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) September 17, 2019
So, initially, stadium construction was supposed to begin in late October (the 29th rings a bell). Then it was reported that site prep work would begin in earnest in September. So some sort of official event on Oct. 10 sounds about right, even if dirt's possibly being moved on the site already. Maybe the Short North fan-space/shop opens then, too? All I really want to see are details of the stadium and surrounding development. And I certainly hope we get those before the 10th. The groundbreaking will be great, and all (hope they have webcams up and running on day one), but this thing's going to take many months before it begins looking like a stadium. Incidentally, it was 10/17/2017 that the news broke about Austin. Two full years to our groundbreaking. It's been quite a ride.
If only they could be brought back for it. edit: I just saw the event on FB. Groundbreaking mini-shovel? Cool.
