I've been gone for a bit, but what is the current state of the new stadium? I remember something was going to happen in September. I need some good news after losing once again to United.
I asked my dad's cousin, who works in the State House in Trenton, about the Harrison Stadium. She said, originally, there was that vote for a Newark complex, but that was voted down. She actually said that the Senators are going a little wild over this stadium for the MetroStars (ahh, the power of soccer). Another vote should be taking place ....I'm afraid to give the wrong date, so I'm not going to say anything. But, trust me, they are working on it down in Trenton. SoFla Metro 's post seems accurate.
Not true. The full Senate never even considered any bill that provided money for the Newark arena. The bill is still "alive" as far as this legislative session is concerned. Uh huh. Su-u-u-ure. In reality the legislature is still out, so unless you've been away since July 1 nothing could have happened. Maybe they'll take it up when they reconvene, maybe they won't. Nobody really knows right now. SoFla's post was sarcasm. You seem to be new here, so I'll just say that "60 to 90 days or so" is a mantra that fans have been hearing for the past five years.
Obie. I hate to be the one to go against you. But in this case SoFla Metro is correct. I talked to my friend who works for the Metro. He said sometime in November the vote will be official from the Senate, when that date is, I don't know. But this is the month that the bill for the hope that the new Metro Stadium will go thru. So once again sometime in November, when it will be I don't know. But November is the official month when they will vote Yea or Nay on the stadium. To SoFla Metro. Can you ask your cousin if their will be any public speaking going on. What I mean is can the public voice their interests & or opinions about the new stadium. I would love to talk to the State about this stadium that means more than Sharpe James pet project.
SFM -- if you weren't being sarcastic, please say so and I will stand corrected. GIO17 -- Don't you see the irony in saying that your "expect an announcement in 60 to 90 days" announcement is better than any previous announcement of an announcement? If you believe that the NJ Legislature has scheduled a vote for November already, I have some prime land on the Passaic River to sell you. And remember, nine months ago the Newark Arena funding deal was "guaranteed" passage by joint GOP and Democrat leadership...
The NJ Legislature takes the summer off and just got back (or about to get back, today being a Jewish holiday), so nothing has happened lately. I highly doubt this is a priority, but seeing as how a Harrison bill did pass the Assembly earlier and so is technically pending before some Senate committee, maybe 60-90 days isn't so far fetched. Certainly no guarentee though. maybe September, maybe October, maybe November, maybe December, maybe never...
I only brought it up b/c I heard back in the summer that September was going to be a key month. Also the fact that we are still searching for a home for the MLS Cup playoffs, provided we make it, got me fantasizing about that glorious day far in the future that we have our own home.
Yes Obie, let's believe that all new members do not know anything about BigSoccer, no one can judge things like sarcasm (even if it holds to be true) or humor over the internet, and that's not only directed to you, that's for everyone who ever uses the internet. sheeeesh By the way, GIO17, it's my cousin that works there, not SoFlaMetro's cousin. I'll try asking her about what you said ASAP.
The voting was wild, the extent of the craziness, I do not know. But why can't it be true? I said it, didn't I? My cousin who works there told me, she wouldn't lie. And thanks for letting me know about sarcasm...although I initially took what you had said offensely , I am new and I'd like it if you people would cut some slack for the new gal. I have a life too, so I can't post 100 posts in 3 days and magically understand the lingo of a soccer forum just like that. So thank you. NOTE :This is supposed to sound nice and understanding
NJ Landon Fan: Sorry about that. But that's what I heard from my friend. Can you ask your cousin if there can be a forum where the public can be heard from the Senate. Thanks.
I almost forgot, but did anyone else get the call from the Metro's in reference to playing in Rutgers the next 2 years?
huh??? why would they do that??? doesn't the NJSEA run Rutgers Stadium, and becides I remember an article clearly stating that RU is AGAINST any pro team playing in their stadium
Rutgers stadium seats 41,500 and it says on the website it was built to handle international and national soccer matches. It looks like if you close off the upper stands it seats around 30,000 which would be an almost perfect sized stadium. http://www.scarletknights.com/facilities/facilities-stadium.htm
I hate Rutger stadium...I remember it in 95 with the US Cup match btw. us and Columbia....I get shivers just remembering the traffic to the stadium
If Rutgers won't give them 2 dates this fall for the playoffs I seriously doubt they would want the Metros for a full season.
I was at that game, too. Took forever to get in and out of there. The good news would be that it would take City folk less time to get to the stadium (train to New Brunswick, 5 minute bus trip). and people driving would face about 20,000 fewer people.
Anyone know if the Metros are looking at the Football stadium, or the soccer stadium (Yurcak)? See the link for Yurcak: http://www.scarletknights.com/facilities/facilities-yurcak.htm Looking at this venue, I see the potential for a Naperville-type solution, with the upside of a regulation sized, grass pitch. Add temporary bleachers, and you can probably get seating for 15K. Traffic and parking would be a major problem, but they seem to have solved a similar issue in Naperville with shuttle buses.
I was at that game too, but I don't remember much of it....I just remember getting cardboard signs that had the US flag on one side and the Snickers logo on the other. "Oh but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" - not really...more like the other way around.
