new stadium sites list narrowed to 5 Just got back from the fire's HD broadcast of colorado-dc game. peter wilt,cj brown and head coach dave sarachin were there. Peter named the 5 communities they will be considering further. Chicago, Bridgeview, Elgin, Hoffman Estates and a surprise, Hanover Park. I live very close to the hanover park site at the end of the Elgin-Ohare expressway, which by the way neither goes to elgin or ohare. There is some open land there and even a farm. Also it is very close to the hanover park metra train station. The porteguese player trying out with the fire was there. I hope by watching the dc-colo game he didn't get a negative view of MLS.
So how was that HDTV thing anyway? I was gonna go, but got running late, thought about who was actually playing and decided it probably wasn't worth the hassle to get to....but I like the idea and am curious what folks that did go thought of it.
stupid question...how far are these communities (aside from Chicago itself obviously) from downtown Chicago? And secondly where is the best of the other four as far as the fan base is concerned?
Here we go again. How about some comments on Hanover Park, as the other sites have been discussed to death in the other thread. Here ya go tree: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51910
we need a new map with red stars. any future CPA's with some free time? im looking in your direction......
Here is some additional information from the Southtown. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/dsnews/121nd1.htm
Obviously Richton park was rejected along with North Aurora, and Itasca.Whereas Elgin, Hofffman Estates amd Hanover Park are pretty far from downtown Chicago it may come down to which community is willing to come up with the most economic incentives. Elgin really should be rejected as just too far out from the center of the metro area. I'm sure the Fire would prefer Chicago but is Daley going to come up with the incentives to make it worth it to the Fire.
1 -- ELGIN (Randall Rd and I-90) 2 -- HOFFMAN ESTATES (IL Rt. 59 and I-90) 3 -- HANOVER PARK (?) 4 -- BRIDGEVIEW (75th and Harlem) 5 -- CHICAGO (?)
i havent been on in a while so please fill me in. What happened to Naperville? Any reason they arent in the top five?
That map makes me sad. Depending solely on the logistics of train travel and getting from train station to stadium, numbers 1, 2, and 3 could turn me from a VIP season ticket holder to a walk-up fan. This has nothing to do with "soccer moms" or the whole "city v. suburbs" nonsense. It's just reality, so please keep any ignorant "You're not a real fan" comments to yourself. While number 4 probably would not be as bad a the first three IF the Fire can solve the problem of getting fans from the Orange Line to the stadium at all conveniently, I just don't think it is feasible.
peter wilt said the hanover park site will be near the end of the elgin-ohare expressway which is near RTE 20 (lake st) and barrington rd.
Looking at the Hanover Park area...if it is right on the train line and the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway (Which goes to neither Elgin or O'Hare, and is not an expressway) and maybe is included in a development with a new station like what I suggested for Itasca or Hoffman...it could be a good thing, indeed. Emphasis on 'could'. Plus, if a station is included as part of the plan (or incorporates renovation) maybe the project could get a little transportation money? Still, it'll be interesting to see where the Chicago site is. For them to make the last 5 it must be rather serious.
Ah ha! Hit that one on the nose. Right on the train line too. Where is the current Hanover Pk station for the train line?
It's right near the end of the Elgin O'Hare Expressway, very close (probably walking distance) to the train. http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Py...p_koVghNro0E-&csz=hanover+park,+il&country=us Also, it's refered to as Hangover Park.
The current train station is on the south side of rte 20 just on the west side of barrington rd. The stadium site is probably just east of barrington rd.There is a large tract of open land there north of rte 20. Also a large farm a little farther east of barrington rd. There is an open area right accross from the train station but I'm not sure that would be large enough.
IS it an older station? Is it in poor shape/in need of renovation? Even if not, and the stadium were a little further down the line a bit, there's no reason a platform couldn't be put up for the stadium. I've seen closer platforms/stops on other train lines, and we could use the parking lots on offdays for commuters. This is all tying back into my ideas for the Arlington Park stadium, incorporating a train station...but for the suburbs, I'm convinced it's the way to go. Doing something similar to the Arlington Heights, Palatine or Des Plaines downtown area with a station and new commercial developmentin conjuction with a stadium would make an environment at least similar to any urban neighborhood. I think it should also still be considered for the Hoffman/STARLine proposal as well.
