He is such a good actor, he has you totally convinced that he's a bad actor. He's just that good, Bootsy
Ok, wrong use of words. Yes, I'm quite aware there is no stadium yet. What I was attempting to say is that the drive to the Springfield metro for me is no worse than the drive to the Vienna metro. I live out near Centerville and to get to the Vienna metro, I'd hop onto 66 and get to Vienna in roughly 20-25 minutes. With the presumably new stadium somewhere in PG county, the trip for me to another metro station, namely Springfield, will be about the same time. I was worried that this new stadium would be harder for me to get to as opposed to RFK, but it won't be at all. I just geton 7100 FFX County parkway south, and I'm at the station in roughly 20-25 minutes. It's not bad at all. Bottom line? Much has been made about how the building in the stadium in Maryland will make it harder for VA fans to get to the games. For some people, maybe that's true. But for other VA residents such as myself, it's not a problem at all. I've swapped 1 metro station for another, and it's roughly the same time!
I don't thnk anyone ever said it would be very much more difficult for metro riders - it's drivers that have to alter their routes to the new stadium. But if you're driving all the way from Centreville to Springfield - you are already halfway (or more) to the new stadium, why not just drive? That would be the logic I would use, can't drink or smoke or listen to loud tunes on the metro
Hah! very true. Metro is no fun, at all. I actually would prefer to drive, but the trip is a bit long for me to go all along the beltway. Taking Metro is a straight shot. Hopefully, I won't have to switch trains like I do when I go to Caps games (which is why I drive to caps games mostly, instead of Metroing.) On the other hand, I hope we're allowed some sort of tailgate at the new stadium. I want to come out and see how Barra does it, since I've heard great things!
The only downside would be trying to come up with reasons why I'm wearing long sleeves to work in August.
Wait...does this mean that you haven't been to one in lot 8? It's not really that much of a walk from the main entrance of RFK. Just head down down the steps, go through the tunnel, follow the sidewalk along the fence and move toward the scent beer . You may be tempted to get side-tracked by the SE's tailgate as you pass it, but my understanding is that you have to pay for the beer there... Keeping this sort of on topic (although that doesn't seem to be a strict requirement), I suppose we won't have any news before the 15th, unless United announces something about land before then.
Nope, beer is free for members - just need to show membership and an ID that claims you are 21 Stop by both tailgates and say HI - we really are both very friendly bunches of drunks
As FB said, as an SE you pay for beer only insofar as you pay for your membership! $25 annual membership gets you an SE jersey or renewal gift (different each year) plus free beer, sodas, and water at all games (and discounts on food, tickets, roadtrips, etc.).
Marion Barry, released from Howard University Hospital today, emerged from his car wearing a DC United jacket. I just saw it on NBC4. Gotta love the big FU @ Fenty.
Saw that on NBC4 as well. Is there still hope for Poplar Point? Not according to this .... http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/t103/about/2009/letter.jsp
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome Are there videos or pictures of that anywhere? Imagining him wearing that made my day. That is, until I read this... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/06/AR2009030603096.html
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome What's disquieting about your linked story is this: A question is whether The Post reporters talked to legislators in favor and didn't print those, or whether there aren't any in favor to quote. I'll opt for the former.
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome I was feeling good and laughing with Marion Barry and then I read that article. It didn't start off well, but in the end I liked knowing more about the potential sites although I worry that information will ignite anti-stadium talk.
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome [/QUOTE] The SE membership pays for itself. As you stumble from the BB tailgate, stop get 2 beers at the SE tailgate, sell 1 for $5 to a thirsty patron watching his stupid kid in the kid area drink the other. For 10 games, you make your money back and pay for your BB membership. Money!!!!!!
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome That's guaranteed, particularly since media outlets really love those types of stories. I'm hoping the current pattern of a single Post article, followed by a couple of anti- pro- comments exchanges, followed by silence, continues. There's a plus to all of the crappy economic news that keeps coming. Right now the stadium story isn't even in the top 35 clicked on Post stories. Given that bad news, however, here we have a ray of hope story. There are so many related pro- arguments available I'm very frustrated that they aren't being made. Maybe it's that pattern showing no growing anti- sentiment after such articles that is causing the FO to hold its fire. Maybe I'd sure hate for this to fail in the legislature for lack of making the arguments for it. I wonder if Garber is holding on the expansion announcement to see whether we get a stadium or not.
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome It wasn't "anti-stadium" comments in the Wash Post or any other news media that killed the Poplar Point deal - It was the new anti-Nats Stadium mayor and city council - Payne and the FO worked very hard with local businessmen and groups in Ward 8 to promote Poplar Point - AND IT WORKED, at least insofar they were behind it and made their points in city hall - The new anti-Nats Stadium mayor and city council chose to ignore them I hope and assume that Payne and Uncles Will and Victor are doing the same thing now with local businessmen in PG County - I think they are - And, at the very least, one letter from them got published last - Its not any Wash Post creative news reporting that could scuttle the proposal in the MD Legislature - It will be lack of businessmen's support for it - Which I assume the FO folks are busy working on right now
Re: Stadium News XIX: Washington Times Reporters Not Welcome I was pointed to this article about "urban stadiums" and how DC United's could be really nice for the area. It's about a month old, but I don't remember seeing it posted here, if it was and I missed it, I 'pologize! http://greatergreaterwashington.org/post.cgi?id=1700
