Stadium Discussion: Chicago Site? Bridgeport/Comiskey

Discussion in 'Chicago Fire' started by theburden, Sep 16, 2003.

  1. Why is Daley et al being so hush hush about the location in Chicago? Only plausible explanation: Meigs' Field! It all makes sense now.

They might not want to risk having it publically rejected. If the general public doesn't know that the site was offered to the Fire, they'd think whatever ends up there was the original intent of the city.

stop whining. at least you guys have something that looks like it's really in the works. i'm jealous! over here in DC, soccer is getting shafted on stadium projects at the moment because the city is sitting around waiting to see what Major League Baseball is going to do before they make a decision on DC United at it's stadium situation!

    Stadium Status

I kind of remember that the Fire stadium decision was postponed from the end of Aug to Sep 15. Today is Sep 18. Is there any news on that?

Sorry if my memory is wrong.

    Thanks.

I am a Crew Fan though

I think he means the game. I know the game is being televised on Telemundo Ch. 44 at 7:30 p.m. Don't know if the game is on cable or not (I don't have it so I don't look). Alas, I will be out of TV range this Saturday at 7:30, so I will be relying on all of you to keep me posted.

Well, sure. But I meant I'd just watch as much US soccer on tv as you can on Saturday.

You're not going to believe this, but Mayor Daley was just in my office building a few minutes ago. Sadly, I only had a chance to say hi, as he was about to leave. So much for finding the secret location.

By the way, he's kind of short.

"A soccer stadium and concert venue would be built just south of U.S. Cellular Field near 39th Street in the Bridgeport community, city planners and team officials told the Daily Southtown.

While an exact stadium footprint hasn't been selected, Chicago's plan identifies a "general location in a few blocks area that includes a couple of possibilities," said Chicago Fire general manager Peter Wilt."

Unless Brideview comes up with a very attractive financial plan, I'm not sure how they could trump this offer from Chicago. Location-wise, it's not even close.
